Shifter (Manual Only)

I wanted my manual SS to have the short throw shifter, but the car I found did not have it. Has anyone started with the stock shifter, then had a short throw version installed? What brand, and how would you rate the difference?

Absolute MUST-DO!

or:

Really cool and worth the money.

or:

I really like it, but not a huge deal.

or:

Not a noticeable advantage over stock.

Thanks

I don't have so can't say for sure, but everything I've heard says that the short-throw shifter is a worthy upgrade. With that said, it is definitely something that can be installed aftermarket. Hurst is the best supplier.

If you have a manual tranny then a short shifter is a must. I love it so much that I am thinking about jumping to a even shorter throw.

YES!! A must have unless you like long and mushy throws lol.

I test drove one with the short throw, but ended up purchasing an SS with the stock shifter. I recently replaced it with the Hurst short throw and I could not be happier. I didn't think it would be that noticeable, but holy crap!! Now that I'm driving with the Hurst installed, the stock shifters throws were comparable to driving a truck.

I thought this was a must.

I have an MGW with retro nob on the way. The MGW is the whole shifting unit, while the hurst is just the top half.

If you want to know more, go http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...&highlight=mgw

MGW makes you do this and stock will make you do this - conclusion... a must.

OK, the MGW looks like the deal. I don't have time to wrench this sucka, so anyone know how much it would be to have this installed? And where? A quality speed shop?

I have a 2010 with the stock shifter. the hurst was not available when we ordered it. we also have a 2012 with the hurst short throw. All I can say is "big difference!" I didn't think there would be but now I will have it put into the 10!

Just in case you decided to do the work yourself, here is a solid write-up on one.

http://www.planetlsx.com/tech/How_To..._Camaro_SS/133

I would imagine if you went to a dealer/shop, the install cost would most likely be anywhere from $150-$200, which is not horrible.

Good choice on the MGW.

MGW Shifters are the best quality made shifters out there, extremely smooth and quiet, and are not incredibly stiff between shifts.

MGW FTW!!

I agree with most that a short throw is a must do. I personally installed a Barton stick in my 2010 for just over $200. It would have been even less expensive if I hadn't ordered the second shaft option to allow the use of the stock knob. I'm plenty happy with the flat shaft and round handle.
