That's an odd comparison. The M4 was under a second faster than the 1LE at VIR. From all we are hearing, the base SS (or at least with MRC) should best the previous 1LE and put the hurt on the M4. Not to mention the hurting the 5th gen Z/28 put on it.

apparently most on this forum are track junkies, me on the other hand will spend more of my time weekend cruising and at the 1/4 or some roll racing. The M4 gives up some of the performance but makes up for it in sophistication.

It was odd to me that you mentioned the Z needs ridiculous for you to consider it, but that's the opposite of the design philosophy of the M4. More luxury features and civility yes, but then that's the exact opposite of the Camaro and the Z/28 especially. So it doesn't sound like you want a Z/28 or did you mean the ZL1? And why wouldn't you be looking at the ATS-V if you like what the M4 offers?

I want a ZL1 with 700+ HP. I know I'm dreaming, but hey, maybe not. I really hope Ford pushes the envelope with the next GT500 and Dodge has already passed the 700HP mark. I think this great competition is what we need to push GM. So to Ford and Dodge

Im not into the look, and really not crazy about the V6 even though i know its going to be an animal. I did have a stong eye on it until I seen it a few weeks back at the auto show and its just not doing it for me. The CTSV looks the part and its serious car, but then im back to an expensive daily driver vs a weekend toy. I live in NYC and cars take a beating here on the street, im so crazy about my current V and everytime a wash it my wife hears me cursing at the new found dents/dings. To keep my sanity i figured i would step down my daily driver and My weekend toy would stay mint and keep the hair in my head.

You can get an SS, with some of the features the current ZL1 has, MRC for one, and then take it to Lingenfelter, they have several LT1 packages up to 1000HP.

If GM do not put the exact same LT4 in the Camaro ZL1, they will fail. i'm sorry but they have no choice; Hellcat 707hp, GT500 750hp?..and ZL1 will still be behind with 650hp. Depends on the price and package, but it better be cheaper than those 2. Even the GT350 will be faster/equal a ZL1 with an engine around 600hp, for less money..The gT350 will have somewhere 530hp and be lighter and produce less heat than supercharged engine.

I think there is about 1000 Z owners with dropped valves that would disagree with you. Most call the LS7 a "ticking time bomb" Not words of encourgement when spending $75k on a car.

BTW, i'm fine with 650, even IF...(i haven't heard anything official on a new GT500) Ford brings a GT500 with 750. Let's not forget folks, the aftermarket will fill any demand in HP packages...and I don't know for sure, but from what i've read on Camaro5 ZL1 forum...there are some pretty basic mods you can do to get 50 to 100 HP gain. I know, I know, 750 from GM Production line would be....AWESOME. Once again, go buy a 2016 Camaro SS, and spend 20K in mods, and you'll have a 900 to 1000HP Camaro for the same price as a ZL1 with 650.

GM does not need to build a separate motor to compete with the GT350. They need, if they desire, to build a car that competes with the GT350.
Here is uneducated guess at what we will see with the 6th gen. V6 - $25-$35 (Platinum). Just please don't call it a Berlinetta with the Platinum option TI4 - $28-$38 if they build them. It will differentiate from the V6 as a performance alternative. RS LT1 - $35-$49.9. This is your SS. High end assumes 1LE or MRC and Platinum. LT4 - $51-$69.0. This is your Z/28. You can option it out like a V6, base up to Platinum. 1LE or MRC will be available. No ZL1. See the C7. No ZR1. |
