1. 6 air bags and a 5 star safety rating.
2. Chic's dig it. 3. With the right Snow tires, they're to not bad in the winter. Several of our club members drive their Camaro's all winter here in Michigan. With 90+ inches this past season, I never heard anyone complaining about getting stuck. Mine hibernates. Good luck.

Why is your father part of your decision making process? Does he tell you who to vote for?
I didn't buy the SS to be practical and I also found the SS to have relatively lower insurance rates compared to other vehicles. Oh, and chics like to invite themselves for a ride. |

The camaro will handle just fine in the snow, provided you have the correct tires and don't drive like a moron.

AWESOME daily driver! ADD WINTER tires if you get the SS and you have a great year round car.
Drive mine all year, have 130k+ miles on it and consider it THE BEST all year vehicle I have owned. |

Tell Dad to take the Audi and dump it on someone else, If you have saved that kind of money then he has no right to tell you what car to buy, As far as winter I have drove mine with snow tires for the last 4 years in Wisconsin and I am one of the best cars on the road in winter , Few cars can track like I can they are a heaver car and with traction control they are tanks , WITH SNOW TIRES once again WITH SNOW TIRES

Insurance was exactly 3 dollars more a month for my Camaro 1/le compared to my Kia Forte. I'm 36 though so that may have something to do with it.
Put snow tires on and DRIVE LIKE A RESPONSIBLE PERSON and you'll be fine. I live in Montana and there are quite a few Camaros up here that don't hibernate. FYI, mine won't hibernate either. I am also curious as to why your father won't "let you get one" if it's your money.

The only thing AWD is good for is giving a false sense of confidence/traction.
The laws of physics apply to everyone. RWD lets you know when your too fast for the conditions. Get 4 Blizzaks and it will be good in the snow. BTW be responsible with the power,it is a lot of car for a first time driver/owner.

Your dad is obviously concerned about your safety, but he's not really "giving" you the Audi (he's willing to sell it to you for $15,000). Like others have said, if you go against his suggestion and buy a Camaro, you better not crash it! You will need to buy a dedicated set of snow tires and wheels ($1200-1600) to use December > March. At this point in your relationship with your parents, they can make suggestions, but ultimately it's your money to do with as you please.
Ah hem, DON'T CRASH IT. |

As per winter driving, mount on Michelin X-Ice 3 and you're good to go. |

The 2001 to rough to keep for winter vehicle? I know its a lot of miles but you can didn't say much about it. Then you could store the Camaro during really bad months. I know you are only 17 but don't let anyone tell you what to spend your money on. I let my cousin talk me out of a pretty nice 69 for $3500.00 when I was 16. Still regret it to this day. Good luck.
As for winter tires for $1200-$1500.00. Buy a winter beater for $1000.00 and pocket the $500.00

OP: I think your father is correct that the Audi is a "more practical" car for you at this time. Take the Audi and take good care of it. Meanwhile, keep saving your money and once you are on your own you will have a decent trade-in and can get whatever you want and can afford. Patience, young man.

Insurance for a 17yr old will be painful... although if that Audi is out of warranty, it wouldn't be much better...
