Thoughts on going from a 6 speed manual to automatic
So has anyone changed there 6 spd to an automatic in a SS. Is it difficult and does it make sense in cost?

You've got a highly desirable 1LE car (I think). You'd be miles ahead in cost, time, effort and possible frustration if you just sold your car and found a nice auto equipped SS.

Arizona,
That’s what I was thinking but thought I’d through it out there as a possibility. Don’t think I’ll do that because I love this car. I had some issues at the track with the clutch pedal so I’m going head first into making it right. I’ve got the bug to go faster, Lol Thanks for the advice |

Not worth the effort brother. Why lose the man pedal?
If you dont want to row your own hears anymore then like AZ said. Just sell the 1LE and move to a differenant car.

man pedal is right. no offense to the slush box junkies, i just gotta row!!!!!!!!! i'm more in tune with my car. everything ive owned in the last 50 years has had a clutch. and aint stopping now. sell it to someone that wants a stick or otherwise suck it up nancy! don't let a couple mishaps or wrong moves make you a quitter. the only way i'll give it up is if i lose my left leg. but then i'll put a motorcycle lever on the shifter for the clutch

I joined just to answer this question. In my 40 plus years of being a mechanic swapping my 13 SS from stick to auto (4L80) was the dumbest thing I ever did.
You have to beat the tunnel to death to get the transmission at proper angle, you have to cut a huge hole for the 4L80 connector, nose needs to come off to properly run a transmission cooler. It goes on and on. Sell your stick car and buy one with an auto if you get the urge. I was chasing a better 60ft time, that improved. But drive abilities is gone. |

MRSmith, thanks for the answer. That exactly the information I was looking for. I’m chasing the same thing but decided I’d just spend the money on a monster clutch Kit from Tic performance, axels, solid drive shaft and new wheels and tires to improve. I’m fighting the clutch slipping and the clutch pedal dropping to the floor. Once I get this done I’m hoping my problems with go away along with the fear of snapping axels.
