From the looks of that prototype It don't seem too far off from being 700lbs lighter but like someone said it all comes down to which one looks better

I think you had a typo there. There is NO WAY 700lbs will be lost. Hell, the 400 being speculated is suspect as it is.

I know Ford is trying to shed weight. They have been focused on this more and more with their vehicles over the last 6 - 8 years. So we will see.

And we wonder why traffic fatalities are on the rise.. lighter vehicles offer less protection.

I could really stand on a soap box at this point.. but I don't want to get that worked up. Suffice to say, if we continue to go this direction, V8's will all but disappear from new vehicles.

Anyone who thinks the next Mustang with a V8 is going to weigh less than a 911 doesn't know the first thing about car design.

I can believe this.

Ok, even if the new Mustang will weigh 150-200 pounds less than the new Camaro. I can't see them winning the handling battle. GM has the ace in the hole with magnetic ride control! Will probably offer a smoother ride too. Would be nice if the mag ride control is a standard option without to much of a price increase.

We shall see how Ford fits that wide 5.0 engine in a narrower engine bay. While GM can fit the smaller and lower center of gravity LT1 engine in the 6th gen Camaro.

It will be fun when both cars hit the streets and real comparisons can be made with real cars. Hopefully GM doesn't drag their feet too long on getting the new Camaro to the market.

You may need to research. Depending on the models compared the Mustang is the better handler in V6 vs V6 and GT vs SS, where the Camaro arguably has Boss vs 1LE and GT500 vs ZL1. The non MRC 1LE handles arguably as well as the ZL1 and the non MRC Z28 will detroy it. MRC helps, bu it is not a magic bullet. It's real benefit is it's ability to offer stellar handling AND ride in the same package. And remember the Mustang is getting an independant rear and all the handling prowess it currently has is on an SRA. if you think they cannot challenge GM in handling, when they already are with a handling handicap, you may wan to rethink you Chevy colored views on the automotive world.........

I wouldn't be surprised..

And regarding Ford and SVT.. come on guys, they engineered the hell out of the SRA, in my opinion it's a shame Ford is moving to IRS, it's just a wonderful sight that a 5.0 with a inferior suspension can keep up with an M3

So to count Ford out now releasing the new Mustang with an impressive IRS is a bit ignorant, and I wouldn't count out SRT as well, they are investing in adaptive suspensioning as well

I got "increased fatalities directly linked to vehicular weight loss" from it...what did you take from it?

It definitely didn't seem to say that increased travel means more accidents and more fatalities on our streets.

This logic is infallible because cars have been getting heavier and heavier until the first three months of this year when they got lighter and people started dying.

(The 7,xxx number did shock me though...thats a LOT of people)
