Car haulers

Hello all,
I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a open car hauler and wanted to ask how your cars we loading due to the low profile. I have about 6 in on my 15 1LE and don’t want to buy a trailer that won’t work. I’m leaning towards this rollback kwickload but am open to a cheaper option and buying race ramps to help with the angle. What are your thought or experiences.
Thanks

+1 on the Sloan Kwik Load. On PERFECTLY FLAT surfaces my Z/28 snout clears with about a 1/2" or so. I throw down a couple of six foot long 2 X 10s for added clearance on uneven surfaces. Good, well built trailer. Definitely worth the price. I have the 18', can be a bit challenging for the strap down points. If you have room for the 20' you may want to consider it.

What length, model Aluma do you have?

I have a old style trailer with pull out ramps. I use Race Ramps to load otherwise the splitter on my 1LE scrapes. I also use Race Ramps under the front tires to give me better access for tie downs.

20' its a 20th anniversary edition, model is 8220H Tilt. Makes life pretty easy, has a hydraulic ram for a nice and slow decent. Plus its all aluminum for easy towing behind my half ton.

Great thread. Eager to see what everyone uses. Am I the only one that has to try to squeeze my fat arse out the teeny window because the doors hit the trailer wheel wells?

2018 CAM Superline 18' with a 44" beavertail and removeable fenders. My '14 1LE was lowered with DSE springs on the Z/28 DSSVs and I ran 305/30-19 tires for the track. Sometimes I ran wheel spacers which tightened up the clearances on the trailer. On the OE 20"s it was not as bad because they were taller. It took some trial and error to get it loaded without dragging the splitter or the underbody. For example, If my ramps had too much angle then it was going to drag the splitter. It was all about the angle relationships of the main deck, the beavertail and the ramps. I made ramp extensions but I got to the point that I didn't need them. I had continued to make the procedure easier.

Having the removeable fenders is great. I got pretty good at loading it by myself. I stuck my GoPro on the LF fender with the camera pointed straight down so I could see the LF tire sidewall and ground. Linked the GoPro onto the GoPro app on my iPhone so I could see driving it up onto the trailer in just the correct place.

Just have someone help you that first time loading it. Someone who knows cars and knows what to look for. My wife had no clue what to look out for, lol.

I traded the '14 in on a yet to be delivered '22 SS 1LE. I think it should be easier to load.

Also, search here on the forums, there's quite a few trailer threads with pics and feedback. That will help you see lots of different scenarios and setups.

I have a Heartland 20' flatbed with dovetail. My car is lowered 1" and has the Z28 splitter. After trying several different combinations to load & unload, I bought some Race Ramp trailer loading assist ramps and that combined with the 5' ramps that came with the trailer made it much easier. The car fits pretty well and the door has about 1/2" of clearance to the fender even with the drag pack on low tire pressure.

I use these for the stake pockets to attach the ratchet straps.

I use these to attach to the factory tie down points in the car frame

I dont have any pics of loading/unloading unfortunately.

I had originally been looking at tilting trailers but they were very hard to come by when I was looking last summer.

The trailer came with 1 brake axle and I added brakes to the other axle for more stopping power. Also added a storage box for blocks etc & also removable winch just in case I ever need it.

My next mod is adding pipe mount stabilizing jacks to rear of the trailer. This will keep the rear of the trailer from dipping thus picking up the rear of the truck when loading the car. Here is a example pic -

This guy does a good job explaining why as well -

I use the same tie downs, they work wonders.

Thanks for all the info guys. I used the angle of approach calculator today off race ramps and they say my angle of approach is 12.5. The Qwik load says it’s around a 7 so I think I’m going to pull the trigger on it. I guess my only thing I’m worried about now is if I’m wrong. Anybody use race ramps with a rollback before?

I don't see how you could reliably use race ramps with the rollback. Just too much movement to get them lined up.

I'm on my 2nd Aluma Tilt and the one I have now Executive Series has tilt plus ramps so no need for race ramps.
