Blacking out badges and tail lights
I wanted to black out all the badges on my car and I'm looking for help. I was wondering if it would be best to black out the badges I have, or buy new ones already blacked out. If I'm best keeping the ones I have, how much would it cost to have them painted.
I wanted to black out the front and rear bow-ties, taillights, 'camaro' lettering on front side. If anyone has ever painted their own badges themselves, please share your wisdom. |

to paint the chrome badge involves sanding them to increase the texture so the paint will stick and then using adhesion promoter. or you can pick up the tamaya (??) paint off amazon for $8 a can and that will stick no problem but the can is tiny and you don't get much out of it. the cheapest and easiest way is plastidip but I have never liked how it looked when it is done.
for my badges I bought them off emblem pros, not the cheapest way to do it but I know the color wont chip, fade, peel, etc. |

I used plastic dip without sanding and it looks great still after a year with no issues.

Plastidip is like spray rubber, for lack of other words.. Or if you prefer spray 'plastic'. Many people use it to blacken things without painting them, sometimes to test to see if they will like it first, since plastidip is so easy to remove. You just pick a corner and peel if you don't like it. It is also quite strong for what it is, and its cheap. It comes in a can like spray paint, and you just tape what you want off, and then spray it with light, even coats! It definitely doesn't look as nice as paint, but it will blacken what you want blackened...

I plastidipped mine. Looks great...
![]() ![]() There are bunch of videos on youtube showing you how to take the tail bezels off. Dont be afraid to pull hard if needed. I did break off couple of tabs but it went in perfectly. |

Home depot or Lowes in the paint section is where I got mine. I think it's like $5-6 bucks a can
