Never been stopped for the lights of exhaust. This is what I used for the tail lights and side markers. They look dark but they allow a lot of light.

Plasti dipped emblems and vinyl tint for the tail lights. Never been pulled over for it In the 2 years it was on my subaru and the 4 months Ive had it on the camaro

Should be fine. People have been driving around with those black plastic things for as long as I can remember.

is there a gloss finish to the emblems or is it dull?

Plastidip usually has a matte finish however they do sell the glossifier on their website.

Plasti dip is the way to go. Super easy to do and if you screw up let it dry peel it off and start over. I just did my bezels, letters, and symbols and they came out great. I didn't use the glossifier but from what I've read is that it looks like crap.
