I’m at a modding cross road need some help

So I have a 2010 l99 2ss 51k miles on it. Car currently has long tubes, high flow cats, a cat back, cold air intake and a tune. Car put down 365 whp and 370wtq. The cars been this way for maybe a year. I’m now looking for more power. I have been looking at doing a cam, converter, and milling the heads. But for the price I could Probly do an lsa swap or a Maggie or even the ecs kit(I’m local to them) The reason I was looking at cams was to get ride of the weak amf lifters I was worried about putting boost on the car with those lifters still on the car. Honest I really want the blower I miss the blower whine my last car had. Give some thoughts also another local shop told me with heads/cam/converter the car should put down 440ish( same shop that did my current tune)

Do them both but in stages. Get the motor ready for boost with the heads and what not then save up and drop a s/c on it. Or do the S/c until the motor pops and then build it lol

If you want both do them both incrementally. However, with added boost you may not want to mill the heads. If you do want to add boost, go with a cam first that will accent the boost method and then add the boost later. I'd go with a cam first because not only do you get the power increase but you also get the glorious cam thump sound.

I’ve been toying with similar thoughts myself. There’s a lot of older threads on this board where guys have run the lsa with afm and not had any issues at all. When I do my lsa swap I think I’m gonna run a small boost cam, or maybe even a gpi SS1. I’ve thought more than once about slapping the lsa on and disabling afm for the time being until Ive saved up enough for the cam kit and feel like pulling the heads.

I have the same year automatic 2SS as you. I just had a Whipple 2.9 installed and it made 536 RWHP on the dyno. I love the new supercharger.

I have a 2011 L99 and with FBO's and put down 365/370 as well on a mustang dyno at 12k miles, then at 98k I did the cam, stall, LS3 conversion/AFM delete and everything else that goes with a cam swap and put down 435/432 on the same mustang dyno, then I added an LOD X1 intake and put me at 470rwhp/435rwtq. All this with STOCK heads, didn't change them yet. The car is fun and radical, has the TSP Stage 3 cam, 231/246@112 LSA. Was going to SC it, but not yet. If you do want to SC it later, as mentioned, start with the cam set up and all and go from there. Good luck.

I'd leave the heads alone. Cam swap afm delete first but keep in mind if you are really going boost to go with a SC cam lsa SC to stay on the budgeted end. Zl1 pump. Injectors.

What rear gears do you have? 3.91 would assist current set-up without much effort.

Though I’ve not done anything other than tune and CAI, I too read a lot here. The Maggie folks will tell you they do s/c’s with AFM lifters all the time. And I believe they do. At modest boost. You know as as well as I do you’ll crank it up at some point.

A good cam/tune gets you near s/c land. A wise man once told me, ‘you don’t git sumpin for nutin.’ Once you start down the road to HP, spend it up front or ‘as necessary’, either way, you’ll have to eventually. Nature of the Beast!

Gears normally aren’t the most ideal for forced induction, at least that’s what I’ve seen in my research on all this.

It’s like an l99 problem. I have the same mods as you and my next short term moves are gpi intake, circle d 3400 stall and bo white Tb. That should hold it off somewhat longer without tearing a large hole in my wallet.

Stage 2 is afm delete, cam, zl1 fuel pump/injectors

Stage 3 whipple sc and hopefully I’ll be done. Good luck with your mod selections.

Also you guys have talked me out of doing the heads and the blower still really leaning that way. So the boost won’t hurt the afm lifters ? Also the car is a day for now and does she the 1/4 mile every so often

Search around on here. There’s a ton of threads on boost with afm lifters. The gains aren’t quite as prominent as with a decent boost cam but still pretty impressive none the less. The LSA is a factory gm piece. If properly tuned and set up it will be as reliable as you can expect from factory stuff. the Maggie’s and the whipples also have a really good reputation for reliability. Daily driving a supercharger shouldn’t be an issue at all.
