What will happen to resale value of Camaros?

With the 2011 Mustang GT coming out, what will happen to the value of the Camaros, especially the SS models?

The new Mustang 5.0 GT is stated to have 0-60 times at about 4.5 with 1/4 mile in the 12's and that is stock.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/28/2...blog+(Autoblog)

It looks like the 2011 Mustang will have the power to weight ratio. My understanding is that the Mustang will also have the better handling due to being a lighter car.

Around here I am starting to see a lot of Camaros on the lot and they are going at invoice or better with GM pricing or Supplier.

My understanding is that the Mustang 5.0 GT will also be priced well. Let the rebates begin.

Both the Mustang and the Camaro are "passion" purchases for most buyers. Other brands do not really affect desire, people tend to buy cars like this because they want one. Besides, the LS3 is a far better engine platform to begin with once you start modifying.

That 5.0 OHC engine won't have the torque of the 6.2L LS3. Early articles are saying that the Mustang's exhaust system is super efficient already, which means simple things like headers and catbacks won't show much gain on them. Slap a set of headers and a catback on the LS3 and you end up with over 400 at the wheels. That is nearly 500 crank HP.

Well, I disagree with you on one point. The resale value is important, especially to the enthusiasts. The enthusiasts will want the best of the best and it appears that the 2011 5.0 GT will be the better vehicle for speed and handling. Sure the the die hard GM guys will only by GM and Ford die hards will buy Ford. But there are many many more people who want the latest and greatest.

You are already seeing the values of Camaro fall. The new Mustang will be a hit in my opinion and will really hurt the value of the Camaro. Just my opinion. I personally don't own the Camaro for its racing ability. If I was in the the race game, I would have to say I would wait for the 5.0 GT Mustang if I wanted a muscle car. For racing period, the Corvette is the only way to go. That's why I get a chuckle out so many on this forum trying to prove how fast their Camaro is. If you want racing, go Corvette, period.

Here is a link to the 2011 Mustang technical specs.

media.ford.com/images/10031/2011_Mustang_V6_Specs.pdf

It is for a V6. Est weight is 3750 lbs for a coupe, 4000 lbs for a conv.
Couldn't find a link for the V8, but I expect the V8 model would have a slightly higher weight.

Generally, the resale value drops significantly over the first 3-4 years of ownership. But due to the Camaro's popularity, I think it will hold its value better than some.

And I will wait to see some real performance numbers from the 2011 Mustang. Due to its increased weight, I don't expect it will be as fast as everyone thinks.

The 370z was suppose to be much faster than it is. It ened up being heavier than expected.
The EVO X was also supposed to be a lot faster than it is. It also ended up being heavier than expected.

The Mustang GT ..........

So far the resale has been really good for the Camaros. I don't think one new car on the market will hurt it that bad.

The 5.0 Stang isn't and won't be God. It will be another powerful V8 Modern day muscle car, nothing to get overly excited about. Finally it will be close to it's compeition. Maybe even have a slight edege. Kudos to Ford, it only took what 47 year?

IMO the Mustang market is so saturated with these models from before it is just another claim to try and top the competition. I guess we will see.

I think you're dreaming. Look at this thread.

By the way, mine is an ABM Camaro. I would sell mine for $5k over MSRP.

Weight gain is 60-70 lbs on all models.

v8 gained 70lbs total and is at 3603lbs.

Camaro is #3 on the Kelly Blue Book site for best resale. It's #1 in the performance category... for what it's worth...

No doubt, the new Mustang GT will be a monster car.

Actually, the best performance car out there is the Corvette, bar none.

As far as muscle cars go, the best one out there is the Mustang GT500.

The Camaro is a great car, but does not compare to the above for performance.

I see you post everywhere on these forums, pumping your chest on how beasty and fast your car is. The SS is a great car, but if you really wanted to be the king of the road, why didn't you buy a Corvette or a Mustang GT500?

The SS is a great car, but it's not the fastest car out there and as far as handling goes, it's off the mark. The V6 does better in the G skid pad. The SS is heavy. I got to think in the next 2 to 3 years, Chevrolet will "enhance" the Camaro and make it better and lighter.
