Please Help! Peeling on paint

Please help me figure out what this is and what caused this? I started noticing this peeling effect on my driver side door about two months ago and it just keeps progressively getting worse. I bought this car new back in 2012 and have never wrapped it or anything, and now there is something peeling on my paint. I thought it was the clear coat because under the peeling, the paint is very dull and rough, but I don't think that cleacoat would peel like this? In no expert on this so please help!

It is definately the clear coming off imo. Most likely
poor repairs. Check with who you bought the car from if you can.

You bought the car new, take it to the dealer you bought it from and ask them to fix it for you.

Definately the clear coat and since you bought it new, (and are certain the door was never repainted), take it right back to the dealer. Even if you're out of warranty make a fuss and don't leave until they agree to fix it properly. If the door was repaired while you owned it take it back to whoever did the repair/repaint.

Clearcoat is lifting away from the paint. I used to see this on the VW Bugs that came out of Mexico all the time (that, and the side view mirrors would fall off).

This typically happens after 8-10 years of ownership of a car that hasn't been taken care of or poor prep.

There's plenty of stuff that will EAT through the clearcoat. But on a car as new as this, it's just poor prep. The base layer of paint was contanimated and the clear did not bond correctly.

That wouldn't get out of the paint inspection booth at the plant if it was a factory defect. I agree with others that think you may have driven through something that caused it. Take it to the dealer.

Sand the area the clear has come off of very lightly. If you get yellow, your factory clear is coming off. If you get white/clear, your door was repaired, either at the selling dealer or the plant, and the factory clear was not scuffed properly. Pray for the latter...or the entire car will need to be stripped, most likely.

If it was at the plant they would just replace the door. I'm thinking if anything happened it was after the car left the plant....maybe during transit. Then the dealer did a quick repair.

Could be. My local plant (shut down a few years now) used to spot repair them all the time. Like I said, if the factory clear is coming up, it will sand yellow. Then you really have a problem.

Hope not, for OP's benefit.
