This update seems like a simple little piece but gosh darn it, so much work......

Unfortunately nothing bolts on! Everything requires so much forethought and everything needs to be modified because NOTHING fits, LOL. The PS reservoir bracket was no different. It was to short to mount the tank on the shock tower.

Here the MAN himself....... Kevin from HM on the lathe milling a spacer to extend the bracket.

Looks like a simple piece but a tremendous amount of time went into it.

  1. I had to drive an hour each way to IMS in San Diego to buy a piece of stock.
  2. Make a template that capture the angle of the shock tower so that we can know what to mill off the piece.
  3. Mill the piece
  4. Before welding the two pieces, we made a 45 degree cut around the edges of each piece so that we would get good weld penetration.
  5. Sand off the anodizing so not to contaminant the welds.
  6. Weld the pieces.
  7. Drill holes on the bracket at the same angles as the shock tower so that the bolts sit flush with the sheet metal.
  8. Tap the thread
  9. Sand the piece smooth so that it looks like it was one piece.
  10. Next will be sending it to get re-anodized.
  11. Still need to measure and make the holes in the shock tower.
  12. Cut the lines for the PS to size.
  13. Place an order for the fitting that comes off the bracket for the cooler line, etc, etc, etc.......
The worst part for us is finding the time to do it as we don't do this for a living. I'm doing nineteen units and Justin is doing 17 on top of everything else.

Than I can consider this one DONE!!! It crazy just to think about the amount of time that goes into build some of these cars!

You say its a simple little piece, but those little things are why a lot of us follow this thread. That post above is way cooler than pictures of polishing valve covers and painting a manifold red IMO.

Also, just curious, what do you mean by 19 units and 17 units in the above post? Forgive me, cant remember what you do (thought it was insurance?)

I appreciate the props Bro, ! We also like encouraging everyone no matter how modest the mods are to post because it will encourage folks to get started. thats the key. Do something because remember, we started with heater hoses, LOL

All three of you guys got it right, LOL. Justin and I are both work with my Dad in his Life insurance agency plus are full time engineering students.

Update: Justin worked on making the coil wires yesterday. He is going to do a DIY on how he did these. Really cool stuff.

I worked on finishing the pluming on the PS reservoir.

Ray thats some stuff right theres. Thanks for the laugh,

Installed the 14 front bumper because I wanted to see if the 2013 1LE front splitter would work with it but it didn't. The 14 bumper tapers in a lot more.

Seeing the coolers through the grill opening looks really cool and mechanical. Makes us not want to cover them with the grill. Perhaps we can come up with something cool instead.

We are making another cooling plate that wont have the opening for the latch as we are running hood pins. The pics don't do it justice! all the folks who ordered one are going to be really happy with them.

How in the heck do you have any time going to school and working? I'm an engineering student myself. It's lots of work!

Not yet Joe. Waiting on the Z/28 stuff to come in to see how that looks and whether we will make something ourselves.

That's a great quote! It cracks me up.

Quick Update on project G5.R: We received an e-mail today from Derale that they will be making us a new radiator shroud with their new fans. This will be shroud # 7. Sometimes perfection means doing thing over, LOL. But the best part is "that they would be ecstatic to have G5.R in their booth this year as the car is definitely going to draw a ton of attention" Some of the top builder have debut their car at Derale booth including Troy. This is one of the best location as it's located in the front of the main building.

You can see were they are in the main Hot Rod building (outlined by the black line). If you ever been there before, they are in front of the stairs pass the Ford booth. On the other side of the same isle is HRE wheels.
