Hello!
|
Well you got a yes (from a dealer) and a no (from your average guy guy!)...the truth is it depends on your dealer to be honest and whether or not the aftermarket part caused the failure of whatever you are asking for warranty work on.
Your factory warranty on your exhaust will be gone since you no longer have the OEM system and the same goes for the intake...but to throw a blanket on the warranty and say it's gone...that is not correct. The aftermarket part has to be the reason for the failure of a warranted part...dealer dependent of course as some won't even consider it! |

Read all the disclaimers in your warranty assistance booklet. You are giving GM the opportunity to void parts of your warranty (especially powertrain) if you change the intake.

What upgrades can I make, that are cheap, add performance and won't void warrantee?
I just got my V6, and I want to get the most out of her without voiding my warratee, which upgrades do you suggest that would achieve actuall performace increases in HP and torque?

None. lol.
Ok ok...well this could end up being a long answer. No simple or common changes will completely void your warranty. But say you add an full length aftermarket exhaust and then you get check engine lights that would have normally been a quick fix covered under warranty...well if the dealership can prove your mods caused the error, they can deny covering it and make you pay. As far as cheap and effective performance mods? How much do you want to spend? You could spend 300 bucks on a quality cold air intake and get some gains, but nothing drastic. You could spend anywhere from 450 to a grand on an exhaust and again get minimal gains, but you'd have a more enjoyable (to your ears) sound and probably better MPGs to boot. Sadly there just is no quick and easy bolt on right now thats gonna net you another 20 or 25 horses. Long tube headers seems to be most effective right now, but your talking 15 to 20 HP and TQ gains at best, then you'll likely need a tune to fight off AFR changes and CEL codes.

I'm sorry, but these threads are all going to start merging. If you have a warranty question, you need to search the forums—thank you.

There really isn't a cheap route to go. CAI and Exhaust is always the first things to be done. I suggest doing exhaust first (MRT 1.0 or 2.0 are awesome!) because it will make mpg slightly better but sounds A WHOLE LOT better. Then do CAI then maybe headers or tune.. BE WARNED, NODDING YOUR RIDE IS ADDICTING!!

By federal law - I believe it's called the Magnusson act? - your warranty MUST be honored unless they can prove your modifications were the cause of whatever problem needs to be fixed. Of course, they might just assume you wouldn't pay a lawyer 10 grand to take them to court and force them to fix a 2-grand problem that ought to be covered, so the law can only do so much to help you.
