HELP!! Motul RBF 600 Dot 4 Racing brake fluid.

Hello everyone .

I need some help here. A friend of mine who happens to own a 2013 1LE is trying to add a JDP 2010-2015 Camaro SS clutch reservoir (JDP-C1001). He bought this kit about 3 years ago and he also bought from them 4 (500 ml) containers to which this day he never even open. Completely sealed.

He never got around doing the installation of the reservoir clutch kit until now. But he is skeptical on using that Motul RBF 600 since he does not know If I’ll even still work and be good?

The containers show it was made on 09/02/2016. Any of you happen to know if the brake fluid will still work ? Also how often will he need to replace this brake fluid ? And would he be also to use it for this clutch reservoir?

Thank you for all your timeZ really hope someone can help .

If it is only good for 2-3 years in an unopened bottle how long will it last in the brake and clutch reservoirs? OP, you may want to contact Motul directly and see what they recommend.

I did a google search and the answer is;

Depending on who you ask either 2-5 years to indefinitely.

So I guess its up to you to decide if you want to use it.

One observation is the 2-5 year range was from manufacturers of brake fluid (do they want to sell more)? The indefinitely was from retailers (do they want to sell old stock)?

My dad gave me 6 or so bottles of this stuff earlier this year. He used it in his race car. Stuff was probably as old as your buddies if I recall correctly. Anyways, 2 of the bottles had been opened at one point. When I poured a little out from the opened ones and compared to the unopened ones, it was night and day difference in terms of color. So I pitched those and used the rest. I haven't had any issues and don't foresee any. I feel that as long as the bottles where kept in a cool dry spot unopened, you guys should be fine. If not confident with what he has, then pitch them and pick up some new fluid.

From the Motul site:

"Extreme high performance polyglycol brake fluid. Far exceeds the standards of DOT 4. Each bottle is filled with Nitrogen, increasing shelf life and eliminating contamination while factory sealed. "

My guess is they probably have a longer shelf life than other brands as long as they remain sealed.

I guess I should change the fluid on my 02 Silverado as it's been in their since I bought it new.

Are you using the kit that comes with the bracket or are you locating the reservoir somewhere else?

If you're mounting the reservoir on the shock tower,you don't need any other hose.Just don't forget to plug the nipple that comes out of the brake reservoir or replace the reservoir with one for an automatic,like I did,that way you don't have to worry about the plug ever coming off.
