I know what we are paying in NJ, I have a $450,00 house. I have a 2 car garage. If 2 cars are parked in there and you fully open a door, someone is gonna get a ding. My house has 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths and I am on a 1/2 acre of land. My taxes are $10,000 a year. There is no way I can even fathom having a garage like half of these people are posting, it is almost surreal. That is why I am saying everyone must be a millionaire or live in the cheapest places of the US. Come on people, what is it?

You like me, are here in Central NJ. So if you guestimate the standard income is about $45K, here you know how taxes average between $4k-$10k depending on where in NJ you are. Now add utilities and regular bills and you aren't living lifestyles of the rich and famous. If you were making $200K a year in this area I could see otherwise.

Now, lets take that same $45K income and go say like certain parts of TX or NC. Guess what, the same $350K house you bought here, is going for $75K there.

Here is our garage, which is still in build process:
Man I need to move to Texas!!! Houses where I live are going for 900K and that's for the Junkers. House across the street just sold for 2.5 million. 3000 sq ft.

I live in central NJ and I can tell you I'm far from a millionaire. My property is about an acre and my garage is 30x36 with 2 bays. It has 12' ceilings with a 2 post lift. I built it myself with the help of my dad when he was available. I have a total of $24,700 in it including the lift. I installed a 100 amp sub panel, forced hot air and central A/C. I do a lot of fabrication so my shop is not "pretty" but it is very functional.

where in CNJ???

I'm right here in Sayreville so you're probably not too far off from what our area costs. I don't have the construction skill so we went with a contractor but we've put nearly $45K into our garage.

I'm just about straight across the state from you in Hopewell. My biggest cost was the foundation and concrete work. I didn't have the time or equipment to excavate and lay up the block. My neighbor quoted me a price of $9000 and had it done in a week. I have friends in the trades so my HVAC was at their cost and I installed it. The lift was second hand from an NTB going out of business. I got the lift and a Coats rim clamp tire machine for $200. I spent the better part of a year working nights and weekends to complete it but I couldn't be happier with it. Well, I should have built it bigger but I probably would say that no matter what size I made it.

My garage is attached to my house and is 1000 sq ft. Big garages are common here in MN due to our vast climate changes. 100+ in the summer, -30 in the winter.

Cost of living isn't terrible here.

Which epoxy kit did you buy? Thinking about doing mine soon, but can't decide on which company I want to go with

I used the Rust-oleum from HD. So far it has held up great, I just need to get a large squeegee. Rinsing it out is great, but the water beads up like wax on a Camaro!

Not as cool as everyone else, but it gets the job done. Only thing I have done was the epoxied floor. Very durable DIY stuff (Armor poxy). I even have storage above the garage for parts!
