how is it that the lighter driveshaft would be able to increase the power output? not too familiar with this.

Reduction of rotating mass.

It doesn't create HP. Just takes less HP to perform the same thing. Anytime you can reduce rotating mass you effectively can say you have increased performance. The rule of thumb is for every 1 lb. rotating mass weight reduction is like an overall drop of 10 lbs. This then can be converted to a rule of thumb that for every 100 lb. weight drop is like a 0.1 faster 1/4 mile.

So all that said; drop 10 lbs of rotating mass weight (2.5 lbs. per wheel for example) gets you the 0.1 second drop in the 1/4 mile.
