Re-sale of a tuned Camaro - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I am real close to finally getting my 2010 Camaro tuned along with some headers. So far I have a Roto-Fab CAI and a Corsa cat back. I personally don't mind the warranty being voided (if there is a problem that the warranty will no longer cover, that is what an emergency savings fund is for, correct?!), but my only concern is re-sale if for some reason I need to sell my car.

Has anyone done this and how much less or more did you sell it for because of the mods?

I know once I get the tune/headers (which I believe I will get done at Vector Motorsports here in Michigan), along with the already mentioned mods I will have about $4,000 extra into it.

I would like to be able to sell it for MORE then normal with the mods, but I just figured the big complaint would be no warranty. Thanks.

USUALLY, you can't factor mods much into the price. Not saying someone won't pay the extra you charge... but most won't.

If it's done by a shop like Hennessey or Lingenfelter or the likes and has a warranty and what not, then you probably can.

Just my opinion.

No warranty would probably make it a no-buy in lots of people's minds. Or at least mine for sure.

I am sure you drive it fine, but hearing about all these horsepower adders and then mentioning it voids the warranty sends off warning bells

No matter how much you baby your car, a modded car will always come off as a race car that somebody else thrashed. My $0.02.

Never gonna happen. Unfortunately Mods usually diminish the value of the car. Amoutn wise, there really is no set number. But I'll put it this way, you'd be lucky to get the same price as the identical car with no mods. As these cars come of age to be out of warranty anyway the factor lessens a bit, but the stigma is still there.

Never mod your personal car with the thought of getting your money out of it. Mod it because you enjoy it.

I sold my 8 year old 02 SS coupe last year for $22,000. Cost new was $29,000 plus $7,000 in mods. So I lost $1750/year. I had that much fun in it.

It depends on the buyer. If it's someone that appreciates mods and HP like many of us on here, they may pay more realizing the added value. If it's someone that goes by the books and can't even change their own oil, they might look at mods as a loss not a gain.

you'd be surprised how narrow that market is even amongst people like us. I've sold a few custom cars for people... it wasn't pretty.

95% of potential buyers will chose an unmodded car over a modded one. Buyers typically want a 'babied' car, even when they plan on modding and racing it. You can assume that a modded car has been driven hard and probably raced.

Minor mods, like subframe connectors, a catback or a shifter aren't much of a problem, and appearance mods like custom paint can even add value. But engine internals and tuning tend to raise big red flags.

And if you sell during the warranty period, you'll take an even bigger hit.

The exception might be cars that were professionally modded by a known shop (verifiable), these will appeal to more buyers.
