I wasn't a big fan of the newer GTO because it didn't look anything like a GTO. IMO, they brought over a car they already had and labeled it a GTO to try and save Pontiac.

The GTO was built off an existing car (the Holden Monaro), but so was the GTO (the Tempest). The toughest part of the sell to Pontiac fans was the styling and not necessarily because it was bad. The GTO had been out of production for a long time. In our mind's eye we created the memory of the perfect GTO. No car, including the originals, could live up to that standard.

When I was doing some research for our project GTO I came across this photo.

This is how I remembered the it in this generation.

I certainly didn't want to remember the one.

I loved mine.

I know the GTO was built off another car but it was at least a Pontiac. They could have either made it look closer to a GTO or just bring it over with a new name.

If Pontiac was a healthy company when they brought it back I bet they could have done a better job.

I could be wrong. I've never ran an automobile company.

I think you are right. That said, had the modified Holden been sold as a Chevy I think it would have sold far better.

You forgot this much-unloved one (probably on purpose).

Latest Picture of Commodore VF

I found this picture, which the Aussie car magazines are saying is a preview of the new Holden Commodore. What do you guys think of this as a possible new Chevy SS?

That's the Holden Coupe 60 Concept. It's VE-based. SS Sedan is VF-based.

Fenwick,

I am glad to see you on this thread. I am currently serving overseas and have limited access to the internet. Whenever, I get a chance, I check the latest rumors. What have you heard?

I am really looking forward to this vehicle. I have already spoken to my dealer about putting an order in. I have 3 kids, so I can't fit the family in my Camaro. I would love to have a performance oriented sedan.

Do you know any details on engine drive train combinations? Will this be a limited volume vehicle, i.e. less than 5000 per year? I can't wait to see the final version. I just hope the price stays below $40k.

No kidding! I think GM is going to knock it out of the park. I think they have realized that their loyal customers are willing to pay fair market price for performance.

Personally, I can't wait to see what Pedder's has in store for this vehicle. After everything they did with the G8 and GTO, they should have the SS dialed in.

Plus, this may well be your last chance to get a real horsepower monster as a family vehicle before cafe standards kill the party. Is anyone else reminded of the early seventies, when American performance disappeared?

Will there be a manual trans option in this car or auto only?

A really good source for information on the new Chevy SS sedan is gminsidenews.com.

On another note, from one serviceman to another, stay safe and come home.

Thanks, I can't wait to get back. My camaro has spent a lot of time parked.

As for the SS, everything I've seen indicates a V-8 will be the only option, at least initially. It will most likely be the LS-3. A manual transmission should be offered.
