V6 vs V8

For those of you that owned a V6 Camaro and then got a V8. How much of a difference is there in power and overall feel?

You will feel the difference in low end torque, the V6 doesn't hit the meat of its torque until 5000 RPM's and the V8 hits it real early. Top end in high gears you will feel the V6 run out of breathe while the V8 keeps wanting more. You can make the V6 feel like a V8 (won't sound the same though) but you are talking about a lot of money.

Suspension wise there will be differences, the V6 uses softer springs, shocks, and a smaller sway bar so there is more body roll.

Driven both and theres no comparison. The V6 is far inferior in every aspect.

Torque gives you a bad feeling. The definition changes on whether it's a v6 or v8.

My dealer is getting my SS clean and getting the paperwork ready. They will call today or tomorrow. So I will know by then.

As for the V6, the car has power for the streets. You will get to speed limit pretty easily, and if you're not paying attention it will pass speed limit even with light throttle. I have had it for less than 1500 miles, the car definitely gets better past the 1200 mark. Transmission is more responsive. It feels smoother too. I'm sure the V8 has more low end torque so I'm looking forward to that. I sat in the SS, it feels different. Maybe because the steering wheel seemed to be a different angle, and I had to adjust seat. The touch screen makes the car interior look a bit more plain than standard radio. I don't care about interior though and because chevy is giving rebates plus I got employee discount I am going with the SS instead of another car.

Drive wise, I've yet to see how it's like. But you won't be dissappoibted with the V6. Not many opportunities to use its power on the road either so v6 will make you happy if that's you're price range. Get one with an LT/RS package now that prices are getting lower.

Or just wait for the 6th gen.

I've driven both.. ended up with the V6 because I stole it from the dealer practically. The V8 sounds amazing, even with the stock exhaust. The v6 can sound good as well but it takes some work. For my commute to work the V6 is perfect for cutting in and out of traffic and loves being kept in the higher RPM. It was mentioned before but both of these motors make it very easy to speed and when (not if) you get a ticket it'll be worth it to hear the number the cop clocked you at lol

I rented a V6 convertible for a week. This was before I bought my SS. The V6 is plenty powerful. It makes more HP than V8's did a few years ago. The V6 is really a fun car and it's great to kick around in it. The V8 is just a monster when you first drive it. It is almost scary fast at first. Of course, now I am wanting more power and I'm used to it.. but when I first drove the V8, I was like WOW, this thing moves!

They are both great cars and we are lucky to be alive when they are available new. If you can afford the V8, get it. If not, don't let it bother you. The V6 is nice and fast.

Having experienced the muscle era, choice for me was pretty easy. Living outside a small town, I was surprised at the number of people here who drove muscle cars back in the day. ....all big blocks from MoPar, Ford and Chev/GM.

I traded up from a '12 2LT M-6 to a '15 SS M-6 and I can tell you the SS is a lot quicker off the line than the LFX was. I was surprised at the gas mileage also. I've driven the Green Flash all over and when I cruise at 75 MPH on the interstates I get a consistent 22-23 MPG running Sunoco 93. With the LFX I would get about 23 on Regular and up to 25 on 92.

Of course around town I only get around 15 or so. Still, for a 425 HP engine, I'll take it!!

I've owned a RS camaro that was totaled when a lady turned in front of me, then a SS camaro I traded in for a ZL1.

I personally thought the jump from the V6-V8 was a huge difference. Of course the SS has more torque and you can feel it, and it sounds amazing. Not to mention its a lot faster.

I find that hard to believe unless you are barley tapping the pedal, and with a manual that's hard lol. Below are my mpg's from my ss and zl1.

2012 SS got 12.3 mpg

2015 ZL1 gets 9.8 mpg

Its all about how many smiles you get per gallon, not how many miles. The world muscle car and mpg should not be in the same anything
