DG it’s the only pic I had of a 2018, so my fault on that. The point I was trying to make is the 2018 is far better looking than the 2019. Retro isn’t required, but since “new” is butt ugly across the board, what’s next?

Looks like the rumor is that it is not really an Allison transmission, but simply has the name on it and Allison tested it.

The Allison 1000 series has been a GM exclusive version well before they sold off Allison Transmission back in '07 to a private equity group as the recession was in full swing.

I believe Allison has a no compete clause with GM as part of the spin off that GM light trucks(pickups) will be the only ones factory installed with Allison transmissions.

Every GM HD pickup installed with an Allison for almost 2 decades has been a so called Allison Branded transmission since the Baltimore plant where it's built in is a GM plant.

I'm fine with that.

But wasn't the 1000 series actually designed by Allison though? This new 10 speed is supposedly a 100% a GM transmission with the Allison name on it. I think that is what the articles I am seeing pop are stating

And ALL Allison transmissions prior to the spin off were GM transmissions....yes?....so just because you sell off a product you designed and labored over for decades doesn't mean you forget how to still make it. I get it about some who thinks this is somewhat of a lesser design technically, but I do not in the least bit believe this to be true.

That's where I guess I am confused. before the spin off, they were Allison designed transmissions built by GM correct? Now this is a GM transmission, designed by GM that just has the Allison name on it.

I am seriously considering the move up to a 2500 for my next truck as it will be the retirement vehicle. I would want it for towing capability unless we decide on a drivable RV over a trailer. I don't like the LT but I could live with the High Country. I have a 2015 half ton High Country now that I love. However I am about 3-4 years away from the upgrade so they may tweak the design by then.

Agreed - but after seeing the initial release, I lost all hope for the Chevy HD version. Can GMC save the HDs with a better front design? Not holding my breath.
