So I stunk up the place today at PRP in the whopping two runs I got before the rain came. 12.9@114 and 12.7@114. both with 2.2 60's. So tricky trying to launch this car with stock tires and cam. Can't just ease it out of the hole because it's totally out of the powerband and just lugs till it hits higher revs, and trying to slip the clutch and keep it in the rev range results in spinning / wheelhopping. Need drag tires, but wanted to get some baseline numbers. I can usually cut at least 2.0 60's on stock rubber cars (even managed a 1.8 on my factory GTO tires) but this was tough.

I'd have expected more MPH. Are you taking it easy during shifts to keep from putting it into the wall or something?

edit: Since we're talking about drag racing, I believe we have hit a new low -- Dust on the track:

cam, do you think dust or pollen may have been the culprit of your traction difficulty?

I did also, however I think there are a few factors at work here. first, I can't at all get out of the hole. It hopped so bad the first run I had to completely get out of it to stop it and then go wot again. The second run I left softer, but the car bogged and lugged badly and the 60 actually got worse. second I still have the factory h pipe and the axleback is 2.5" and it's causing a bad restricion on the top end, right where this cam shines. The power curve starts flattning out in the higher rpms and starts losing power around 6300 rpm, and this top end charge is where I should be picking up MPH so 3" has to happen. And lastly I have to shift into fourth right before crossing the line and that doesn't help trap.

But most importantly there was a horrific amount of dust and dirt on and around the track from all the construction at prp,so that surely slowed me down considerably.

If I'm understanding correctly, you're inferring that 2.2 60' may have actually been giving the car too much credit out of the hole.

Regardless of your exhaust setup, your car is still making good power, so I'd surmise that once you get some traction from launch and through the gears, you'll be knocking on 120's door.

I was having some fun with Cybil!

He has new tires so we gave these a proper send off. This was a closed, private road.

Don't feel bad like someone else mentioned, more time to get use to your "new motor" and sticky tires. My buddy ran his Procharged LS3 on Drag Radials last Friday Nt(had too much Air in them and didn't want to lower the pressure for fear of breaking the rear end?) Wont even post his time north of yours. He sat and spun and spun then gave up.

Do we know what the head wind was at PRP today? We can use that to determine how much pollen may have been on the track. 11mph seems to have an effect on dust and pollen counts for 5th gens.

Further, if the dust and pollen had an effect on the traction, just think about the pollen in the air! Can you imagine the difficulty for the intake tract?! What if dandruff was a problem for some of the racers... or maybe their pets were shedding... this could mean huge implications that the engineers may have been unprepared for.

cam, forget the larger exhaust -- you need a HEPA filter.

Any of you locals need a set of stock/standard rockers in scorch yellow. I had the dealer take them off at 800 miles to install the optional TF3 ground effects. I will not ship. Any reasonable offer will take them.

Next mod. Filtrete merv 8 drop in filter and dissolve claritin in the fuel supply. I smell 11's on my next outing!!

From my interpretation, it was more a 1,320 feet issue rather than just the 60'. Not only is cam unable to launch, but grabbing each gear probably causes the pucker factor to elevate exponentially.

How about some Camaro racing videos...

Here's a couple videos of my friends car from back home. 89 IROC-Z small block TT -- built at his house (not Lingenfelter). Was a T56 but went to TH400 once he starting running really quick. 100% street car... not worried about dust or pollen:

Engine is now going in a 91 Z28 hardtop. Shooting for 8's. I'll see if I can get him out to PRP some time.

Who is this Jason? The real problem for me is the 60' Couldn't find the happy medium (mind you in the first and only two runs I have made with this car on a track!) between wheel hop/ spin, and bogging and no spin. Once rolling, shifted hard and fast and it just barked the tires on the 2-3 shift, but no loss of traction

His name is Matt Barr (no, not the kicker!).

You bring a good point in that you made two passes. Not just two passes, but the first passes of the season. I can imagine just how rusty I'll be the first time I'm out as it's been 7 years since I've been to the track. This is why I like track rentals or test and tune days where one can get 10+ passes in.
