Wix 57045 in place of specified 57060xp?

Anyone have any insight whether its acceptable to use the longer 57045(XP) in place of the specified 57060(XP) for our 6.2L cars? I just happen to have a handful of 57045XP filters around.

Great question, I've asked before. We always used longer truck filters on our engines in the 80's. I used to work in auto parts but no longer do, they can check the thread size and pitch, if it's the same, a longer filter is obviously better. Hopefully someone with the knowledge responds.

The only risk I know of is the extra hang down, slight risk of road debris impact.

Other than that, and that a longer filter is really not needed. The 57060xp works perfect. But I think no biggie either way. It's just a bit lower, the smaller one is just tucked up nicely.

Seeing that the Z28...COPOs.... all used the pf48 size.... Seems like that smaller size passed all the validations fine. And is tucked up there for debris protection.

More media might give you a hair more miles before plugging up in an uber dirty crusty poorly maintained engine. But with regular oil changes, that smaller one has plenty of media and GPM flow rate.

I wish I could still find the non "e" type for the LS3.

Adding the 57045XP was my first modification to my 14 ZL1.

I'm an engine builder and I despise tiny oil filters.

As you can see the frame is lower than the filter by a significant distance.

The belly pan had to be notched to not rub, but it will fit without modification it just binds on the belly pan and that could precipitate filter damage.

Debris may be an issue but debris that would knock this filter off would most likely damage the OEM filter as well. After 12K miles and 3 sets of tires I've had no issues with the longer filter.

If you are spearing as lot of oil filters, stop running over bicycles , I stopped running them over after doing so messed up my 81' VW Rabbit pretty bad back in the bad old days, it's all fun and games till...
