We're still taking suggestions.

To recap our guidelines:
We are leaning towards having the next fest in the eastern portion of the mid west, or the western portion of the eastern US. There needs to be a drag strip and an autocross area, as well as space for members and vendors. A road course would be great, but we can get by without one.

Since it's a fair guess that a middle-of-the-country fest is going to pull the most people compared to east or west locations, it's going to have to be in a location that can handle upwards to 2,000 people. Since Heartland Park in Kansas seems to be at worst about a 2 day drive from just about anywhere in the continental U.S. and Canada, it has about the best location as well as good access on interstates. Hopefully there's enough hotels/restaurants/gas stations to support a few thousand coming in all at once.

Question is of course what's the cost to rent it and is it available during the desired dates?

A huge X on the "we can get by without a road course" idea. Of COURSE there must be a ROAD COURSE!

I'm looking at the Topeka Kansas track. The only potential issue is the 1/4 mile start is kinda far from where the autox, vendors, and car show area could be. Take a look at the pic again and see what I mean. Autox could be in the purple area with vendors to the right and show above it.

Kansas would be cool. Just make sure you have it in April and not August when the temprature and humidity are both 100.

We'd need somebody who lives nearby to go there and take some pics. From the google map it looks like that purple area is messed up and wouldn't be good for autocross. The asphalt infield of the road course looks like it might be good but it's hard to tell from the aerial photos. They do have nice garages and facilities judging from their marketing pics which might be a bonus for people buying things and wanting them installed right there at the track. Kansas City airport isn't too far away either for those flying in. This location sure has potential depending on availability and cost.

I'm there are enough of us to do some local leg work to make this happen as well.

It also has to be affordable. Compared to an event like the Indy 500 we're chump change. A world famous track like that won't be cheap.

I vote to push it back one month and have it in the middle of May....that way I won't have to miss any college classes to come.

We got to drive it 3 times last year at no charge to us. A relationship with Chevy and IMS. Opening Day, the day before the race for the Camaro & Corvette Rally and again for the Brickyard400 opening weekend. If its held when the track is not sanctioned, IMS is pretty open to PR events as long as every driver signs a waiver before getting onto the track. ORP wouldn't be nothing but a thing I'm sure. They have an oval, road coarse as well as the strip where the Summer Nationals are held.

I vote for Indy.

I assume the April timeframe is etched in stone, but would be even better if was mid June after school's out, to make it a more family event.

You're probably right. I'm going to to everything in my power to make it to the next fest. Just would make it easier if it was pushed back!

No worries if it isn't, though. After all, it is cooler in April than May!
