Lifter destroyed my block

The Car has 40k miles and one of the lifters collapsed. It destroyed my cam and half piece of the lifter went inside the block. So I just bought a Used LS3 block with 30k miles on it and ordered forged rods and pistons. Do you guys suggest me to do anything else while I'm building this engine? and should I use the same garbage LS7 lifters? By the way my old set up was CAI air intake ,GPI SS2 cam, GPI intake mod , headers , catless, 150 shot of nitrous and fuel cell.

Good time to upgrade lifters, the weakest link in LS, IMO.

When the car was first mod'd, were the lifters and lifter trays replaced? If not, root cause...higher lift cam, spring rates etc will wear the trays out letting the lifter rotate...that is the cause of the failure...99.9%...switching to a non-lifter basket style will fix it,,at a higher cost...so many peeps run the LS7(COPO anyone) that if it was a POS we would know it....

Sooooo...replace cam? Replace lifters and lifter basket at same time....for the cost of 2 head gaskets and the opportunity to replace the stock head bolts with ARP....THAT would be my piece of mind...put in LS9 head gaskets and never worry about liftin your head in N/A unless you spray the snot out of it...and then probably break a rod first...

We have used the LS2/LS7 lifters with success for a long time. Does that mean they never fail? of course not. It generally happens on vehicles that sit a lot or have higher miles on them. We tell customer the o.e. lifters and rockers are good parts but when used with higher lift cams and heavier springs the cycle life should be reduced to 50K or less. This is also with making sure the install was done correctly and the valve train geometry is set up correctly. The thing that most people do not check is the cam to cam bearing clearance as well as the lifter to lifter bore clearance. Installing a higher dollar lifter may get you some more cushion time on a failure but we have seen plenty of those fail as well due to not checking everything else that should be looked at. You didn't mention if you had new lifters or how long the car was modded for vs actual miles. Did you mod the car at 30K and use the same lifters with 30K on them or did you install new ones at the time you did the upgrades? You wouldn't see a new one fail that quick unless something else is going on or it was bad/defect from jump street.

I also dont let mine idle for long periods. Less oil gets slung off the crank to the cam at idle.

Odds are we could have sent you a shortblock with better parts in it for the same or less than what your going to have in yours and it would be a stroker!
