If the dealership wants 45K, wait until the end of the month and offer 40K contingent upon them putting it up on a lift so you can inspect the front end and of course a test drive.

Good luck.

If you plan to keep it forever, buy it upon inspection and get the price as close to $40k as possible.

If you do not plan to keep the car forever (or at least 10 years), keep looking. If a car is in an accident, and repaired well, after 10 years, buyers typically understand that the repair was sound or the accident was not that serious in the first place. As was said, the trick to a car with a CarFax report – especially with no documentation of the accident – is re-selling it.

What driveline issues are you referring too? All mass produced vehicles have some "issues" including the 1LE.

Agreed, 1le rear axles seem to be a big weak link

I think I'd want more than a visual on the lift. It should go on a four-wheel alignment rack to make sure there isn't more damage than what you can see. I would be afraid of suspension/subframe damage that might keep it from getting a proper alignment.

^^^ this is very smart and may be the best $100 you'll spend. It might all look OK but the 4 wheel alignment will tell if anything is bent or out of whack. The whole it has had an accident is a bit overblown just from the standpoint that a minor front bumper repair can cost $1,000's. Had a frond who had her car backed into and only creased the front nose and was almost $3,000 to fix and car had a deceleration on it after.

This would just be a standard alignment correct? I don't need to request anything specific?.....

Standard four-wheel alignment, yes. I would tell the tech that the car was in a wreck and you want to know if not only if the alignment is within the specifications but also if any of the adjustments are at their limit of adjustment. Subframes could be bent and the alignment might be possible to get "close enough" but there is no more room for adjustment.
