RK sport hood feedback

Just a heads up for other members looking to install a fiberglass aftermarket hood. I got the RK Sport fiberglass heat extractor hood in on Monday and there's a ton of finish work required. To the tune of 8 hours of prep to get the hood to where it will fit properly..

There's pinholes all in the glass. Its a fresh piece of glass that will require a ton of prep... Just a warning for those who think the hood can be sanded and painted and then easily installed. The finish is rough and there's even primer that's got to be fixed all along the edge of the hood where it meets the wipers.

Because it's fresh fiberglass, it will also require additional sanding and painting 30 days after it is finished due to the fact that the fiberglass will shrink and set fully after painting...

The hood is going to look incredible after all is said and done, but the work required to get there is not cheap. Just making other members aware as this is not a simple sand/paint and bolt on piece..

I got the ram air hood from them also with no issues. Maybe you got a bad hood? Did you see if RK Sport would replace it? Sorry to hear that you had to pay just to get it where it sat right.

I also have this hood , Rk sport with carbon fiber . i bought it used from Kelly and its off centered on the right passenger side . I was actually going to make a thread about this ...
i talked to my dealer about it and he basically said im not going to get it to fit right unless i pay " thousands " :/ ill try to post some pics in a second ....

question: have either of you to setup the wiring for the light in the hood ?

No way I would spend 8 hours to make a product right. It should've been right when it was delivered.

My finish and fit is fine. How much are you paying for paint and install? I paid $650. They did tell me I need to come back in a few weeks after it sets to do something, I don't remember what they said.

The fiberglass is wavy and needs lots of work and there are pinholes all in the fiberglass that is going to take 8 hours of labor to fix. That's just not acceptable and i'm reaching out to RK to sort the issue out.

Sending it back to the west coast isnt really feasible as the hood can be repaired to fit and the finished product with a quality paint/finish but is costing twice the amount that it should as the unfinished hood quality is just not up to RK sport standard.

This is a Quality Control issue and I would like to think its a 1 time exception and not the norm. I'll followup with a status after I talk to Jason @ RK Sport...

I'm estimating around 7-800 for the prep, sand, block, fit, paint, and labor for just the hood. (in addition to the price of the hood)

I was quoted 1500 for the work of getting on the body kit... 6 additional pieces that need some fiberglass work done in order to look good...

Just a heads up to everyone that these fiberglass hoods and body kit products are not an easy and inexpensive prime and paint job.

Man that sucks. I got a hood from Suncoast Creations http://suncoastcreations.com/a-che-c...ood-21018.html for my LS1 z28 and didn't have these issues. It also wasn't that expensive to get it prepped and painted.

I think RK Sport needs to improve the quaility of their hoods.
