Camaro survives GM chopping block
Sounds like GM is going to eliminate some vehicles pretty soon. The Camaro didn't make the list, but it doesn't sound so good for cars. Trucks and SUV's are selling like crazy.

Nope and until GM realizes that the 20-45 crowd are still the majority about "status" a BMW, Lexus, and MB will continue to rule the "status" world. When it comes to GM to some especially the hipsters and the "{status" crowd if you ask them about a GM vehicle it's like pointing out you have a disease.
Remember GM does not need to win us over or convince us they already did it’s the new generation the people who envy the celebrity types and since the celebrity types are all about the BMW, MB’s, and Lexus vehicles they will continue to flock to them. Even though GM has some great cars in the lineup and I myself would never stray away from GM unless they folded or royally screwed me over. Now for the Camaro unless something drastic happens in the next 2 years the 7th Gen could be the end of the Camaro for GM.

It would be a sad day if the Impala were ever axed. Having said that, it needs to be made rear wheel drive and/or AWD.

Wow, 66% sales drop on the impala. Would be disappointed but surprised if they dropped it based on those numbers.

Aside from the Camaro, Vette, Tahoe, and impala GM has been making some hideous vehicles (the impala barely makes that list for me). Ive heard the same echoed by coworkers in the 25-40 age bracket. VASTLY improved quality, but exterior appearance has been laughable. That is a huge motivator for this generation...I dont think it is about "status" as this next generation has no issue buying Kia, Toyota or Nissan. Very similar price point to GM products. BMW might be slightly different as they offered pretty appealing incentives to lease but their quality dipped on the pursuit of moving metal. Given the incentives from Lexus and MB on their low tier vehicles, I'm not sure they are crushing sales either. I've always had at least one GM product in my garage, but this go around nothing Cadillac Chevy or Buick offered in full size cars or small/medium SUV were appealing at the price point. For family cars, Honda Toyota Nissan Kia Hyundai and yes.. even ford... were all far better optioned and priced with the same or longer warranties. While my car will always be a vette or camaro, my loyalties to the family wagon lie with cost and appearance.
And yes.. I know lower fuel costs can be attributed to this as well. While some will certainly disagree with me, I think the truck sales are attributed both to low fuel cost AND the fact their trucks look so damn good. Unfortunately, only a very small fraction of society cares about performance .. as long as they look good in it

Only reason a car does not sell is price and quality. GM charges too much for their automobiles with quality slightly less than the foreign competition. GM has to mark their cars up too much to pay the huge salaries and bonuses to employees and share holders.
Example : average GM union worker $69715 per year plus $8000 bonus plus $7000 sign in bonus plus vacation and over time. average engineer $75000 per year plus bonus, vacation and overtime President of GM -$10,225,000 per year CEO - $22,400,000 per year That is the equivalent of over 560 Camaros per year. GM has a tremendous buying power when it comes to supplying automobile parts for their manufacturing assembly line. Cheap Parts come from all over the world. The various automobile parts suppliers to GM for the GM assembly line is an extremely low profit business. GM sets the sales price for all the automobile manufactures. Foreign competition enjoys a very healthy mark up and profit too on their automobiles thanks to GM. All the foreign competition needs to do is keep making and selling their cars at the same price as GM but with a little better quality. Not too much better quality though because they do not want to beat up their GM price setting gravy train. When you see a non GM employee wearing a shirt with GM logo on it you should chuckle at the sucker. GM does, as well as, the other auto. manufactures. |

Loved my 14 Impala a great vehicle inside and out, the only downside to the vehicle was it needed to be RWD, not that would make a difference for the rental car companies they have slowly stopped buying GM and leaning more towards Dodge and Ford. My last trip to Chicago Enterprise said they were moving away from GM because of price, same thing when I was in Detroit, not much to choose from for Gm vehicles.

None of those seem like big surprises except for the Impala. They'd be crazy to axe all those cars without having some kind of replacement for some of them. SUV's and Trucks are selling like crazy right now because gas prices are down, soon as gas prices go over $3.00 a gallon again, SUV's and Trucks will slow and cars will pick up.
