Recommend strut / shock replacement

I have an '11 SS/RS w/ ~77K miles on it with the OE struts / shocks. It's my daily driver, it's not tracked or anything. No suspension mods. What are good replacements for a DD? AC Delco, Koni, KYB, Bilstein,.... I guess I'm looking for as good to a little better than stock. I was kinda leaning towards the Koni orange.

the 1LE uses FE6 suspension........
part numbers here:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244570

the shocks will be quite a bit stiffer than the ones you now have (ss & 1LE springs are the same). if you are happy with the current ride, stick with stock. once you change one thing, you will end up changing a lot of things..........the afliction is called mod fever

I'm well aware of the risk of mod fever. My shocks are just worn out & need replacing. Looking for something a little better than stock.

I stock both Koni Oranges & Sport Yellows!

And there is a Factory Rebate program going on right now.

So, I went with the Koni orange. I didn't get the lowering springs. Although it would look better, I didn't want to increase ride stiffness. The front bolts that attach the struts felt like Hulk tightened them at the factory. Even after soaking them w/ WD40 it felt like I was going to snap by breaker bar in half. Next stop, the alignment shop.

Why did you go with Koni Orange over just going to the newer 2012 style?

I just went with the 1LE shocks and couldn't be happier. They are everything I was hoping they would be.

Just an FYI not sure about the Koni orange but with the koni yellows spring seat shape and height difference factory 245 45 R20 height tires will not fit on the front of my 1LE anymore with the konis. (Sorry for the garbage sideways picture)

Yeah, I didn't want to go for a lower ride height, so that's why I stuck w/ the orange. The problem I'm having now is the infamous knocking noise from the front end. I'm gonna go back in & tighten everything back up. I may even try the toilet mod if that doesn't work.

I thought I'd update this thread. After installing the Koni oranges, I was getting some popping noises. I went to this thread:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=49036&page=18

I checked & re-tightened all the nuts & still had the popping noise. I then installed an advanced rubber isolation bushing system or ARIB (it' really called the toilet mod) There's a rubber toilet flange that just fits perfectly on top of the strut tower to eliminate the popping noise.

pics here (not mine): http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=31

Worked like a charm. Now that everything is settled in, I find the ride a little softer than OEM. Most of you would probably prefer a stiffer strut. I usually do too. However, with my bad back, the softer strut is much more comfortable. The adjustable Koni yellows would be a better choice for anyone looking for a performance upgrade. The orange are good if you want performance w/ comfort.
