Cracked wheel spoke 💔

Hey all,

I was looking around my car and just noticed a wheel spoke crack. This wheel sustained a low-speed curb impact about 10 years ago, didn't crack then, but was repaired and repainted. No damage recently, unless I hit a pothole I can't remember.

Should I replace with a used OEM wheel from a junkyard (about $200ish) or spend a little for a new 4 wheel aftermarket set?

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Thanks in advance!

That sucks to see, I would say if you were looking at an excuse to get new aftermarket wheels this might be it, but if you need something quick and cheap then replacing the one OEM wheel is the way to go, aftermarket will be considerably more expensive then replacing one wheel.

Personally, I would replace it immediately. $200 is a lot cheaper than it coming apart completely.

Totally concur!!! Safety first. I would NOT drive this car with that wheel still on it. Replace it ASAP either with a used one, or opt for a set of nice aftermarkets if it is in your budget. If that wheel came apart at speed, it could cause major damage, and quite possibly a bad accident!! Not worth the risk.

I would bet there probably was unseen damage on that wheel, way back then, that just recently showed itself after possible further damage from another hit.
Like you said, you just don’t quite remember.

If you just want to spend as little as possible and you aren't into putting a lot into your car then by all means just get the wheel. The reason I got new wheels is because they are lighter. Easier to take on and off but if you are not into rodding out your car then don't waste your money is my advice.

I change out to drag radials all the time so the weight difference for this 40+ year old who had shoulder surgery about a year ago is all worth it to me. Losing 12 pounds off each wheel and tire might not seem like a ton but you can definitely feel the difference when changing out wheels. Those factory boat anchors were uncomfortable to change all the time. Now while still heavy I have no reason to complain even after my major shoulder surgery. Just my 2 cents.
