Mustang GT gets 420hp stock!
Of course we know now that the Shelby GT500 will be 200mph plus with 650hp but also confirmed now is that the new Mustang GT 5.0 is also getting a horsepower boost to its V8 making it now 420hp stock. Camaro performance wise is in a bad bad spot now for sure.

I'd say it was just underated to begin with.

The GT was underrated and still is. I remember reading reports of it actually being more near 430-440 horsepower.

I don't think it has more HP then the Camaro. You gotta figure both cars are dynoing around the same numbers. When I had my car dynoed a stock 5.0 dynoed 360rwhp right before I got on the Mustang dyno. Then we compared his numbers to a stock SS and the numbers were within 5-7hp

I don't think it actually gained anything. They've been under-rated since the beginning. They are probably making closer to 425 to 430.
Kinda like when the V6 Camaro went from 304 to 312. They didn't change anything, they just "re-certified" it.

Yeah I knew that many people were saying they made 430hp and were underated. I figured maybe they made it even faster who knows.

I'd expect to see a more significant increase in horsepower with the all new 2014 5.0. I'd guess that's when they'll go to direct injection. Probably just some better breathing or a tweaked tune for this modest bump.

I've seen bone stock 5.0's put down 370-375 RWHP and 365-370 RWTQ.
Not bad for a small 5.0 motor eh?

underrated? doesn't being SAE certified prevent a company from under/overrating an engine by the 15 hp i've seen some people quote?

Same kind of thing with the 03/04 Cobra. Ford first released the SAE numbers were 390/390. However, they later came back and re-certified the numbers were actually 425/425, since most Cobra's on an average dyno in average conditions were putting down 370+ RWHP and 360+ RWTQ.
