Possible Rebate?
PURE SPECULATION on my part.
I received the new incentives for October and one thing that caught my eye was that we are offering $1,000 Conquest Cash on the Traverse. My dealership has a waiting list and they are all selling for MSRP. (you could buy a Tahoe for that price, but thats for a different thread!) Basically, if you own a '99 or newer non-GM vehicle, you will get the rebate. You don't have to trade it in, it just has to be registered to the same address as where you live. Doesn't even have to be in your name. As crazy as it sounds, I have had 4x as many customers ask about the Traverse compared to the Camaro. I wonder if GM would do the same with the Camaro? Might be a good way to get some of the Mustang market to switch over to the good side. |

So, basically, because I own a 2004 Ford Expedition for my wife to drive, I'd get a rebate, even if I didn't trade the Ford in? Wow, that's stupid. |

It looks like this is intended to draw sales from non-GM brands to GM. This seems like a response to those Ford ads where they give people a Ford car for a week to replace their other car.
It's brilliant business. Loyal customers will come back anyway. Other branded customers will check out the deal and consider GM vehicles.

Go buy a $200 1999 Geo Metro, get it registered, get your $1000 rebate, then sell the Metro to the junk yard for $150. |

This promotion has only been around for a short time and worked great with the new Malibu. For once GM has a creative idea to get their cars in the driveways of folks who drive other makes.

Cool so I'll just borrow my mom's Ford when I go to buy my Camaro. Excellent.

Not to mention with gas prices what they are, Geos are selling for several times their book values. Some people are making money off nothing but buying, fixing, and reselling Geos.
