Gauges that only show you evidence of a problem after the problem has cropped up are never worth much. Instead the idea is to notice that you're consistently 20* hotter than normal lately, or have 10 psi less than usual all the time, or you only ever put out 12v in all situations, and even though things are ok right now, you want to check it out soon.

So, similar to the voltmeter or the coolant temp gauge, the trans temp gauge can over time introduce you to the idea that something is not normal any more, and you might want to investigate it.

Guess I will pad my post count too.

It is a throw back to the 1st gen gauge cluster location.

My first years driving were in a '68 so I can relate to the gauges but I wanted something a little more user friendly as I always watch my gauges so I used the oem gauges and made a few changes.

Gm put them there so you wouldn't see the oil pressure drop to 0 when the oil pump failed for fear of depressing you! Very considerate of them

Exactly.

And I only WANTED a Camaro with the gauges because I think they look great. What puzzled me is the OP has been here for a while with a ton of posts. Just seemed like that wouldn't have been new information.

OP maybe you can send them to Chris if you get them taken out.

Seems like they should have put them closer to the dash, or even along the pillar. I'd rather have that space behind the shifter open to store sunglasses and such, like it is on the 1LT.
If you want to remove them I have the OEM console top part that was standard in the 1 LT & 1SS models I will sell you for $30 it is like bran new PM me if you are interested.

I agree with you 100% , I have no problems seeing them either , the retro styling is what makes the Gen 5 what it is.

The ergonomics of these gauges sucks period, especially on the MyLink models, and particularly for 6.3ft+ drivers .

The oil temp gauge, even if it is a "calculated" reading, comes in pretty handy, to let me know when it is safe to kick it.

Bad ergonomics aside, I do like the "look" though. I had them painted in Carbon Flash to match the theme.

Follow-up, in case anyone's interested in the warranty aspect (copied from the warranty sub-forum)
I emailed Chevy to ask if removing it would void my warranty. As I half-expected, I didn't get an answer. They said I have to take it to a Chevy dealership and have it looked at by a mechanic. I called the number below and got the same answer. She said that they have to check the vehicle and make sure there's nothing else defective that might cause an issue with removing the gauges, which makes sense if they want to be sure they're covered. I'm due for an oil change, so I'll just ask about it when I get that done. If the dealership wants to charge extra to give me an answer, I'll just remove it and hope an issue never comes up, or see if they do it for a fee so it will be on paper that it was removed by certified a Chevy mechanic.

THE EMAIL RESPONSE FROM CHEVY:

True, I've been here a while and have a ton of posts, but those posts are mostly in the detailing forum. I only got my first Camaro 2 years ago, so I'm not very familiar with anything pre-Gen5
