My 1SS.....

Gotta question on the manual transmission...I took it out on the highway and up thru the gears. At 60mph it's turning barely 1400rpm..Can you drive it at that low an RPM?

No....it will explode after 30 seconds.

Ok not really. Of course you CAN drive it at that RPM but in my opinion it is not good to lug the motor. When my car was stock I rarely used 6th gear. It's good for sustained highway driving but just don't lug it too hard.

I drive in the Canadian Rockies quite a bit and was wonderin' about the luggin'. I guess 6th is OK at 70-75mph??? So long as you don't punch it, or expect it to climb a major hill?

6th gear is really there for highway cruising. Think of it as the cruise control gear. When you need to press the gas down to pass someone or what not gear down to 5th instead of lugging the motor.

The basic RPM range for just puttering around town with the LS3 is like 1000 - 2500 RPM. 1400 RPM is just fine for cruising. If you drop below 1000 RPM the engine will lug if you try to add any load.
