More Resonator Thoughts on L99

Ok check out this picture. It is from the Corsa L99 exhaust. I just want the X-Pipe Resonator part. I highly doubt they sell just that part. So thinking is X-pipe and 2 glass packs, probably Cherry Bombs.

What you all think now that I found a picture?

Why not use the Magnaflow Tru-X muffler to replace the huge center resonator and forget the mufflers? I don't think you will need any resonators if AFM is disabled.

A word of advice:
I have glass-packs with internal louvers. The sound is great but the thermal action of the louvers causes LOUD popping during heating and again during cooling. Glass-packs are OK but get some with a perferated tube insert - not the louvers.

Well that is just the X-Pipe, need something to help take care of the AFM sound when it kicks to 4 cylinder. That is what the glass pack idea came from. I want to keep the drivetrain warranty so programming out AFM not an option at this time.

Are you going to leave you rear mufflers on? I have the GMPP mufflers for the L99 and do not want to throw them away. Another thought is just cut out the resonator and put an X-pipe in and see how bad it sounds. If it sounds bad order that muffler.

My suggestion is to put the Magnaflow X-muff in place of the resonator. See if you like the sound with the GMPP mufflers. I think it will be too quiet. If so, do a muffler delete and sell the GMPP mufflers.

That's what I did. Also installed Magnaflow Comp. Series Axle Back rather than just doing a muffler delete so the Welded in straight pipes wouldn't be visible. Plus I like the 5" tips. Looks and sounds GREAT!

I have an x-pipe and magnaflow mufflers on my L99 and I really don't hear the AFM kick in

But as was suggested, go with the Magnaflow Tru-X muffler to be on the safe side.

Hey Firengred, I have the same axle back as you and am wanting to add the Magnaflow muffler in place of the resonator. I also have a LMR intake and custom tune (Livernois) with AFM removed, so not worried about the 4 cyl sound. Where did you order the Magnaflow muffler from and about how much do they run?

Thanks, I'll probably just do it my self and clamp rather then weld.

This is the setup I am leaning towards. I know you have AFM turned off. Is there any drone? or did you have this setup with afm on ?

I got my parts from Manaflowplus Performance Parts. Muffler was $91. Sorry but this is not a clamp in job. Resonator is huge. Re-piping is involved.

I'm with you on not doing a tune to delete the AFM. I"m going to install Magnaflow street axlebacks on my A6 L99 now that I insulated my rear trunk area. See my thread @ CAMARO DIY & HOW TO instructions. I totally insulated/soundproofed the trunk floor, 1/4 panels and wheelhousings.
I attached photos and my Camaro is now quiet, quiet, quiet.
