New owner and new to your forum

Hi everyone. This seems like a great forum with great enthusiasts and information! About 2 months ago I bought a black 2014 1SS/RS, M6 with NPP and 5.1 short shift. I’m loving the car so far! I’m no stranger to American muscle cars; I owned a ‘95 LT1 5.7L Formula for 12 years, but sold that 9 years ago....so it’s great to be back in a performance V8! A ‘71 Chevelle SS convertible is also in the family as was a Trans Am WS6. This LS3 is soooo smooth and sounds amazing (electronic controlled remote fuse pull done already). Most times I forget about the radio as the pops and burbles never get old!! Windows down
I’ve been learning a lot about my new car reading here and I look forward to personalizing it somewhat. I’ve seen some sweet pics on this site. I’ll try to post the 1 pic that I have of the car the day I bought it. (fingers crossed). (Please move this post if it’s in the wrong spot). Cheers!

I’m trying to just enjoy it and behave for now,.... but I know it’s only a matter of time, hehe. I’ve been driving an ‘07 BMW 335i coupe for 7 years, (twin turbo in-line 6), that put down 416/429 rwhp/rwtq, so I would like to open this up some. It’s my daily driver so I need to stay reliable. Probably the usual intake and headers. I’d love to have a cammed car (never have) but I’m a little apprehensive. Maybe when it’s no longer my daily.?

I’ve changed the rear end fluid with GM OE gear oil and I’m running Mobil 1. Also - I’ve bought the 4 quarts of GM M6 trans fluid that I still need to change. (What’s up with the lockout on cold starts?)

Do you mean the skip shift?
It's always present, not just when cold. You just see it more then because you are taking it easy.
Anyway, I start in 1st when it's cold so I see it sometimes. I double clutch, when you lift the throttle the indicator will disappear and you can shift to whatever gear. I usually go to 3rd at that point.
Once she's warmed up I start in 2nd. Unless I want to go really fast, or really slow. Run it up to the limit (1st goes to 50MPH), then into 4th or 5th.

No not the skip shift, I know what that is. Sometimes my shifter doesn’t want to go into reverse all the way or first gear at cold startup. Like when reversing out of your space at work (after the car has been sitting for hours) and then putting it in first. First can be like a wall. But then within the first 2 minutes of driving it’s all better.

I would definitely completely flush and refill your transmission with new transmission fluid first and then report back before you diagnose this. The technician I spoke to before said that the transmission fluid must heat up first to get good shifts and to let your transmission fluid heat up before you pound on it. Also you can get a mild to average size camshaft and it will be very streetable and dependable. Don’t be afraid to install a camshaft if that is what you would like to do with your car. Also I seen some good results using Mobil 1 5W30 and Valvoline SynPower 5W30 motor oil on our cars. You can’t go wrong with the Genuine GM fluids for your transmission or rear end good choice. I would check out Texas Speed Performance or Comp Cams and have them custom grind you a camshaft to your liking.

Welcome aboard.

Only thing I did to mine was put on a Borla cat-back exhaust and skip shift eliminator and I'm happy. But you have the NPP so you are good to go there.
