Contemplating on going to the dark side
OK well not really. I'm contemplating whether or not trade in my 2013 1LS and getting a 2015 2SS 1LE. Or just keep my V6 and hook it up to the end.
My original plans for my V6 was to get twin turbos and 3.91 gears with the SS brakes upgrade. My car doesn't have the Mylink nor HUD nor the Recaro seats or even a sunroof. All that $$$ can go towards a down for a new SS. But being a car guy all the work I've done to this car will seem to go to waste. I've added an exhaust. New suede steering wheel aux guages and rims. So the $$ question is should I stop and get a new car or keep the one I got ? I love my V6 but your can't deny what a V8 brings to the table and what possibilities you can achieve if you work on it right.

One thing I can't wait for though, is to be out from under this car note. Trading into a SS is just going to start the clock all over again. If you're one of those people who've just accepted the fact that you'll always be paying a car note... then it's no big deal. If you're like me & would like a few years between, I'd put that down-payment money towards a twin turbo set up & call it a day. |

If it is just speed you want, then go with the TT's and build it out. If it is the sound that you want then go with the SS.. Only you would be able to answer that question.

Good point about the money spent on the mods. I don't necessarily need an SS, and although it would be nice, I have put about $3K into my car and would feel like that was a waste if I traded it now. Mine only has 2K miles on it and it runs and sounds good. There is really no practical reason to trade it now. It's a DD and is fine for my purposes. I may upgrade some day but I really like this car and it would be tough for me to part with it, even if it is a V6.

Eventually you are going to want to move on from this car. If you feel like you wasted $3000 if you trade now, how are you going to feel after investing a few thousand more in twin turbos for the V6? |

I had the same decision to make... I decided I was way to deep into the V6(money spent) and had some sentimental value being my first brand new car ever. So I went FI. No regrets yet.

If your asking this question you already know the answer, your just looking for justification/approval.
Get the SS because after you blow the V6 up by TTing it your going to be very bummed.

No one can answer that for you. It all comes down to what you really want. Keep in mind, with the 6th Gen around the corner you may find you really want one of those in a year or two.

Only you can answer the question. I have no regret trading my 2LT in on a 2SS. I hadn't put any money into mine, however, mods shouldn't be looked as an investment into the car. It is generally lost money. Some folks may even shy away from cars that have a lot of mods on them as they wonder how it is driven.

A CAI and cat-back exhaust and some cosmetic touches are far from a lot of work going to waste imo.... But as stated above, only you can decide what you want. Personally I'd go for the 1LE. I could have bought a V6 and put the saved money into twin turbos, but I prefer the V8 and the better suspension, brakes, sound, looks, ect. that come with it. I also feel there is more value for the dollar with the V8 based on all the things mentioned above and also the potency of the LS3. It is an all around better car. And twin turbos on a V6, while definitely awesome, is pointless in my eyes when it'll still only run bolt on LS3 ETs and trap speeds. It's an awful lot of work to do when you can get an LS3 and do the same thing (and so much more) more reliably, with less work. How much can these V6s handle on the stock bottom end? Make sure you understand all that's involved with going FI. Ultimately the decision is up to you. Just make sure you weigh ALL of the pros and cons.

As much as I preach about the twin turbo kit for the V6 I will say I would only go that route if you do the work yourself and have an extra car to drive. If your paying a shop to do anything and everything to your car it can get very expensive. Doing the work myself I have less than 8k invested in the whole turbo setup. Not counting brakes and suspension. I love it and having something original that not everyone has is nice.
