The M3 gets a 0-60 in 4.6 seconds which is close to the same as the Camaro has tested. Handling in the BMW may be better overall however they are in a different price category..

The Camaro SS wins. I've been having this argument with one of my buddies for a while.

M3 is a great sports car.

You can get a brand new 2008 Corvette Z06 for the same money (approx. $60,000) similarly equipped.

Care to meet me at the lights Z06 vs M3? Noooo...

M3

Curb Weight: 3704 lbs.

Performance
Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 4 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 414 hp

Max Horsepower: 8300 rpm Torque: 295 ft-lbs.

Wimpy torque number, no snap your neck instant go fun.

I'd love an M3 in my warehouse, but first I will buy a Camaro and Corvette.

i've owned 2 BMWs and have grown a veyr strong liking to them, i'd grab the M3 sedan (not the coupe) over the camaro mostly because i love the practicality of 4 doors. all the luxuries help it up there as well. all the specs are thrown out there so its obvious they're very close.

So for that kind of money and wanting 4 doors why don't you buy at CTS-V for the same price (or less). I bet its lap times at Nuremburg were faster, as are all the acceleration figures. More interior room too. Plenty of luxuries....

I'd take an M3 sedan over a SS,
not saying that I don't wish I had the Camaro, just that overall the M3 would be better.(But it costs way more so what do you expect?)

i dont think the m3 will hold much of an edge, but it will win out by a small margin through the twisties.....but never in a straight line.

On the drag strip, SS will take it without a doubt. On the track, thats a tough one ........

Yeah. What are we using as a basis of comparison? Price? straight line performance?

Straight line is tough. The Camaro SS, and M3 are probably going to trap around the same. But 0-60 I've seen car magazines saying the M3 will do 0-60 in 4.6 and others have said it does 0-60 in like 4.3.

Price? Advantage Camaro SS for sure...

On a track though. I'd say advantage M3.

Overall conclusion.... Just buy yourself a base Corvette, spend less money and just whoop the M3 silly...

Well...I figured he had'nt considered it since the car won't be on the street for a month or so. Besides....I could'nt help but to wave the American flag in front of him being that the CTS-V is faster than both the BMW and the Camaro anyhow. And when he mentioned 4 doors........

There is no doubt in my mind that if I could afford it I would buy the CTS-V over the Camaro in a heartbeat. The performance difference is huge. And luxury with it????? WOW!

I love my current 07 CTS, and can't imagine how nice it would be to have that supercharged (but detuned a bit) ZR-1 powerplant in it. I hear it can go sideways from a roll in a heartbeat. BMW at the same price or more???? No way.
