Catch Can

I recently installed an elite engineering catch can with a check valve. I have ran it for about 3000 miles. I checked it today to empty it and it only had enough oil to coat the bottom of the can. How much oil do y’all normally have between oil changes? I have the LS3 with roughly 95,000 miles.

I might be wrong, but isn't the check valve only for boosted cars?

During December of 2017 I installed an E2-X Elite Catch Can assembly onto my 2014. This kit also came with an aluminum low cracking pressure check valve, this valve is to prevent any potential back flow during heavy acceleration.

I use only Royal Purple HPS 5W30 oil, between changes I might get 1 to 2 ounces in 3-4K miles. I have never yet had what I would call "dirty or contaminated oil".

Camaro2ss2010,

Can you either post or send us pictures of your installation? Confirm the checkvalve is flowing away from the can towards the IM? Should be similar to what the others here are trapping.

And as always, anyone can email our tech support and Engineering Department direct for can/system choice, installation assistance, or any automotive related questions:

Aren't catch cans only required on engines with "direct injection" like the V6's and the newer LT1 V8?

Check valve flow is going away from the can. Line with check valve is top line in the picture with the connections at the engine

All looks correct. Center of can to valley, and outer fitting to vacuum barb on IM snout.

The system you have is our base system, but should be fine for a NA LS based port injection engine.

All looks good. A sign your rings are seated well and and oil consumption is minimal.

I installed an Elite Engineering catch can on my 2014 1LT V6 Automatic several months ago. I don't drive much at all, so I just empty it out periodically. I honestly should keep track of the gunk/mileage ratio.
For reference purposes, I took a 10-hour trip immediately after installing it (5 each way). I ended up having maybe a tablespoon of dark, oily fluid in the can. I accidentally put slightly more oil in my engine during the last oil change (less than a quarter of a pint over), so I'm not sure if that would affect the amount of gunk captured in the can or not.
