My car is a convertible. Is there safety equipment that's required for the driver and/or car? Are there other required modifications for the car?

I second woodburn, I ran my SS there a few times. woodburndragstrip.com has all the information you need. It is NHRA rules, I believe your vehicle has a roll over bar, you should be good to go.

It doesn't have a roll bar but there's the following article:

http://www.nhra.net/2004/news/june/062202.html

"As an example, under existing Summit E.T. rules, a convertible running 13.99 and quicker must have a driveshaft loop and roll bar. Under the new rules, a pure-stock street-legal car will not require this equipment unless it runs 11.49 or quicker."

I'll check nonetheless, because the article was written in 2004, which is before the power modern muscle cars.

The way I read the rules, must have a hard top, convertibles out.

Guess that was the old rules, now my bad since a stock ZL-1 runs 12.23 guess a roll bar would be required. Not interested in tracking mine.

Question This is what I found...

Convertible-top cars must run with top up.

Roll bar mandatory in all cars (including T-tops) running 11.00 (*7.00) to 11.49 (*7.35), in convertibles running 11.00 (*7.00) to 13.49 (*8.25), and in all dune-buggy-type vehicles running 12.00 (*7.50) seconds and slower. Permitted in all cars. See General Regulations 4:10, 10:6.

Driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1 mandatory in any car running 11.49 (*7.35) or quicker, in convertibles running 13.49 (*8.25) or quicker, and all dune-buggy-type vehicles running 12.00 (*7.50) or slower. SFI 16.1 restraint system, when required, includes crotch strap and must be updated at two-year intervals from date of manufacture.

My assumption is that a stock Camaro SS runs 13.49 or less.

I'm curious, was there a convertible Camaro, Mustang and/or other high performance vehicle there?

No convertible 5th gens that I saw. There was a convertible with its top down in the rain and running the track... I was told about this, as I was on the track at the same time and didn't see it.

I spoke with Jay & Gwynn at Woodburn & they were patient & helpful. Running 13.99 & quicker requires a helmet, 11.49 & quicker requires a roll-bar.
