False alerts on my detector
I have my radar detector in my ZL1, and it seems as if when ever a big rig comes at me, my detector goes off like an instant on, alert. It never used to do this. Are the trucks using something new these days to con the radar traps?

In Wi it is illegal for commercial trucks to have any such device. Many trucks have gps and satellite that can set off a detector.
Which detector? My R3 has many settings to mute false alerts (speed alerts, garage doors, etc.) |

I have a V1 and have noticed more noise than normal as well. I might have to switch to another one. It could just be that every new car now has radar and it screws with it.

It's all the proximity alert sensors that are on most new trucks/cars. They can screw with radar detectors.

My detector is a sensoro brand. I know I am not in the high end detector bracket. I bought this one several years ago, because I wanted one with a built in compass.
My question is I didnt used to have this blatant issue, with almost every truck coming at me, setting this thing off. Just wanted to know if the truckers these days are using some kind of active jamming or something.

Filtering is extremely important nowadays with all of the blind spot monitoring etc out there. I used to have a Redline which was rendered useless because of this. Any detector more than a year or two old is probably going to have a problem.
I use the Uniden R3, which is excellent at filtering while having great range. Highly recommend it. |

I have a new V1 which is supposed to have a filter called Junk-K for this. It works better than my 8 year old 9500ix but still picks up collision avoidance signals from mainly Acuras and big rigs.

A lot of the new crash detection / forward collision warning systems seem to set mine off. Audi was the worst offender. I couldn't take it anymore and ditched my radar detector for now. I have been lucky with the cops for the past year.

A lot of new cars with the adaptive cruise control actually use radar out the front to measure the distance to the next car in front of it. This can travel quite a distance.
There are many new sources of "noise" now that really degrade radar detectors and with most law enforcement now using Laser,,, your best bet is to download the Waze app. |

You need to buy a detector that offers "Band Segmentation" You have to turn off the offending bands that the new cars and trucks use. Once you do that its great.

The only thing that sets off my R3 are Honda/Acura BSMs on 24.198/24.199.
My 9500ix will go off near some trucks and such, but I'm to the poiint where I run without K band and just do Ka, since K band around here is pretty rare. Best to use both. Around here, only the State Police use laser. Everyone else is on Ka, and some towns are still using older K guns. |

I ended up turning off K band on my Passport Max in the ZL1 right after I got the car. I was getting tons of false warnings, and I think many were coming from my car due to the blindspot detection system. I have the exact same detector in my BMW, and I don’t have that issue — though I am starting to get more K band warnings from other vehicles with radar based driving aids/ safety systems. This is to be expected with how common those features are becoming on new cars.
I’ll probably eventually turn off K band on my BMW’s Max, as all the cops around here use KA band. CHP are mostly what I worry about, and I’ve never caught them using anything other than KA. That and laser if they’re stationary. |
