Why GM dealerships suck

Maybe this is more prevalent now at many dealerships, but I NEVER heard or experienced this at other brands.

My sister has a 2009 Malibu. She received a flyer in the mail for a $39.95 state inspection from a Chevy dealer a few towns over. My sister lives with my parents as she’s severely diabetic and slightly slow. She takes the car for the inspection and they failed it for the windshield wipers. They charged her $17 for each new wiper and another $17 to install them. My father drove her car last week and said there was nothing wrong with the wipers. If she wouldn’t said no she’d be out the $40 and it wouldn’t be inspected. My father called the dealership to complain and the guy told him that’s their prices and if he doesn’t like it don’t come back.

After my beyond terrible experience with the Chevy dealer we got the Camaro from I will start referring people back to Subaru, Honda, and Audi. I never had a bad experience at any of them.

Yeah it seems many people have bad experiences with Chevy dealerships which I find odd because how are Chevy dealerships run any differently than others... it seems Chevy dealerships never really want to help you

No problems with my dealer/salesman. I had an annoying problem so I took my car back to the dealer. I've had my car since June 2009 so it's way out of warranty. After I dropped the car off I called the salesman, he has been at the dealership for a long time. I told him the problem & asked if he could check for a TSB because I know I didn't do it. He called me back and said no TSB & the shop estimate is $190. He knew that I was pissed off so he told me he would split the cost. Ended up we each paid our $95 and I was happy.

I'm with ya. Had a gm dealership I really trusted and bought 4 cars from screw me over big time.

Then I got my wife a new ford and the only way we could purchase it as promised was to get up and start to walk out twice when things started shifting. Most stressful and infuriating process

I've had similar experiences with dealer service centers. Many of them do suck, but there are a few that are really good with customer service. The prices, unfortunately, in general are high and if you know a good mechanic then you may be better served at other places for routine maintenance. The really bad dealer service centers I complain about in writing.

It's not just the dealerships. Any one that gets the chance will rip you off. Especially if they think you do not know any better. That is why it is important to find somewhere you can trust and stick with them.

Just like me. When I was looking to get a second key for my Camaro, local dealership tried charging me over a $100. Went to the next city over, same owner, and it was also a Chevy dealership. $60 out the door they even told me how to program it. So now I drive the extra 20 minutes to go to them. Like today, my third brake light went out. Called them up and they squeezed me in to come in. If I have to leave it, they will provide me with a loaner.

Sorry they tried to take advantage of your sister. I hate people like that.

Everytime I read these chevy dealers suck threads, it makes me feel lucky that I live close to two very good and honest Chevy dealers. They aren't all like the OP's example.

It's not just Chevy dealership service that that suck. Have had similar bad experiences at many different brands. The good ones seem to be few and far between. When I find a good one I'll go to it even if it is a little more out of the way.

That’s too bad to hear. I’ve had good and bad experiences with Chevy dealerships. For example Lawrence Chevy in Mechanicsburg, PA is one of the most dishonest, disrespectful dealerships I’ve ever come across. I will never give them a penny of business EVER. However, Thornton Chevy in Manchester, PA is a very respectful dealership. You have to get past the typical sales games from most of the guys, but other than that their service department is straightforward and easy to work with.

Just out of curiousity OP, which dealership was it?

Lawrence gave me a good laugh one time. Never been back. Regester's Chevrolet in Juniata county is good. Small town nice.

The same Dealership that was good last week could Suck this week just because the Service Advisor was bad or in a lousy mood.

Service Advisors are on Commision so it's their job to sell stuff (Tires, Wipers, Oil Changes).

to the OP, I think the SA took advantage of your sister!

Fredrick Chevrolet in Lebanon.

As for all dealers are bad, Becker Subaru was amazing as was Knopf Porsche/Mercedes/Audi. Always went above and beyond.

Gwatney Chevrolet (also know as GPI ;o) in Jacksonville Arkansas. That is the only Chevrolet dealership I go to. I drive there when I need things done that I can’t do myself. They are the best of both worlds.

Granted, nobody’s perfect, but they work to make it right...
