C5F II - OC Convoy
Hey everybody,
I just wanted to post this information, being that there is only 9 days left before we head out to Arizona. Here's a recap of the info: If you will be bringing/buying walkie-talkies, please make sure that you will be able to get channel 5.2 on them. I believe that the general terminology is that of "22 channels with *** privacy codes (where *** is any number) Here's where we'll be meeting at on April 14th: 8361 La Palma Avenue Buena Park, California 90620 Just in case, let's park in this area: I'd like us all to leave at 10:45 a.m., no later than 11 a.m. I'm not sure what traffic is like during this time, but NorCal is planning on being at Morongo around 1-1:30 p.m. With that said, I'll probably be getting to Carl's around 10 a.m. to grab some grub. When we start heading out, the majority of the people that posted in my thread said that we should take the following route to Morongo: - Out the 91E to the 60E and then hop on the 10EFor this option, we'll be taking the 91 all the way to the 215/60 interchange. We won't be taking any other freeways. Here is what the interchange looks like: Eventually, the 60 freeway merges with the 10 East freeway. In theory, it should take us about an hour and forty-five minutes to get to Morongo. If we get there early enough, this will give us time to go into the casino for refreshments or what not When we start heading out of Morongo with NorCal, we won't have to worry about which direction to take or what exits to take since one of NorCal's members, IBM/2SS/RS/LS3, is in contact with police departments and such. I guess we can rely on them until we get to the hotels. I hope that I'm not overwhelming anybody here. I just want to have a plan and make sure that things go as smoothly as they can. Although we don't have many cars in the OC convoy, let's have some fun and make this epic Let me know if you guys have any questions. Miguel (714) 423-4134 Original Post: Quote:

I will be there.Route 1 looks better and less distance, just keep the speed to normal, no sense racing out there to get pulled over, ruin the day and get delayed to cabazon. Not in that much of a hurry. As a note when I drive from Downey to Yucaipa on a sat going the 60 to the 15 to the 10 its 1 hour, 15 min. with some stop ang on the 60 and 70-75 the rest of the way. Its 27 miles or so past that to Palm springs, not sure where cabazon is exactly in relation. Seems we have 90 minutes on the road at least with no problesms or traffic.A thought, do we want to still leave at 11:30 or earlier? we gat to cabazon We may want to do lunch as the other stops not much time at.

New imfo and pass along to all. In the section after Palm Springs, near the mccoy mountains before Blythe the cops are out in the center dividers in the bushes and aircraft overhead. In Blythe city cops are"bad" and training goes on for sheriffs and the patrol as well. After that in la paz area to Quartsite the same situation. All this from a co worker who was born in Blythe and knows the tricks.
Keep speed to limits. They will see us as a fat, juicy target!! |

Thanks for the info, blackbee. Palm Spring is quite a few miles past Morongo, about 15-18 miles.
And yeah, we won't be going 100 MPH or anything like that, we'll cruise out there at about 65-75 MPH depending on the flow of traffic.

Route # one.
I go that way every other weekend to go to Glamis. Blackbee is right about the cops in the Blyth area. I was just out there this last weekend for my son's BMX race, and sure enough, the cops sit in the middle of the highway waiting for speeders. I thought for sure I was getting one last weekend. I think my speedo is off more than i thought in my truck. I went past him right around 80MPH and thought he was going to nail me. Just looked at me as i went by. |

Dang, Chuck...I'm gonna try to set the speed for a maximum of 75, but I think the range I gave should be comfortable for everyone.
Looks like route 1 is taking the lead...I'll give it until the beginning of next week to make it official. Thanks all!

All sounds good with me.I'm 55 and want to keep my record of no speeding tickets! Been really lucky so far
As to walkies I think we may go buy some, let me know about that. May come in handy. But we all have phones too, so anyone who needs us maybe should get a number or to comunicate between groups. |

speedo is off from the bigger tires, but figured it was only around 5 MPH. must be closer to 10 off.

With #1 option, where does the 91 meet the 60? or saying of taking 605 or 57 or 15 north to merge into the 60?
