Are you guys just removing the cats or punching a 3" hole in them and putting them back on?

I removed mine, then used a long 3/8" extension and hammer, driving the extension through the catalyst in multiple places. Once I had a few holes, I switched over to a long metal cold chisel. End result was my cats being completely devoid of any catalyst material. Took me about 2 hours to do both of mine.

I don't see a need to destroy good parts that are worth good money.

I got some straight pipes that looks like cats. I don't think it's a good idea to run any cats over 600 hp with a supercharger.

Hell yea, there worth at least 100 bucks on C5 anyway. If you take them to a scraper you wont get jack for them.

Damn, I had an offer for my cats a while ago, for 100 bucks, i thought, na, they gotta be worth more than that.....LOL What the hell did I know, I should have taken it. I did end up selling them to a scraper, and yea, the scrap yard wanted proof they were mine....different times man.

definitely wouldn't leave it running anywhere thats not open to the environment. I wouldn't say it smells "bad" it's more of a "strong" odor, idk i like the smell of exhaust

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a 69 GS so I'm familiar with the smell. I'm sure it's not as bad w fuel injection but I'd like to make good power with my camaro and not deal w the smell.

Mine melted @ 590rwhp. Long drill bit and electric drill and they were cleaned up pretty quickly.

at 650 HP both of my Magnaflow CATs blew out. One disappeared without a trace which is awesome but the other one clogged up half my exhaust right before the muffler. If not for the crossover pipe I would have blown my motor.

I remember a good conversation I had with a pretty smart guy about this exact topic. He explained to me what exactly causes the cats to fail. And according to him, its not how much power.
Its a good read. Blueclyde explains it quite well. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379024
