Those of you who have a Ported Throttle Body

Can we get your comments on them? There's a thread on here where one guy stated he could tell no difference, and another stated he actually lost horsepower. Dyno would be great, but so would actual testimonial and what sort you guys have. Thanks in advance.

Here are a couple of good referances:

Here's what I recorded for my car on 4-24-09. When the TB arrived, I took it to the track and swapped it out with the original after making 2 passes to get real world results that a dyno won't show. I don't see HP gains because the MPH didn't increase, but apparently the response time changed to improve the 60' numbers, which translated to slightly better ETs.

Certainly not a major mod, yet clearly indicated some improvement. I wasn't expecting much for $150, but something is always better than nothing. I'd guess it would be more evident on a manual car, especially in normal driving where quicker response is more desirable.

1/4 mile test results DA corrected
2 passes for baseline - 11.92 @ 121.24 & 11.96 @ 121.17
2 passes after install - 11.90 @ 121.18 & 11.90 @ 121.05

Most evident as 60' dropped from 1.97 & 1.97 to 1.95 & 1.94

Was thinking of installing one on myself. Good u-tube video out there on a 2010 Camaro ss with a before and after on the V-max. The only mod is a CAI.

stock run HP- 371.89 TQ- 367.53

V-max HP- 380.51 TQ- 378.50

HP Gain 8.62 TQ Gain 10.97

Not bad for $150.00! Looks like it was done totally legit!

I don't have any dyno numbers but for me it isn't so much a noticeable seat of the pants difference in HP but it ceartainly accelerates better and the initial throttle response is way better. It just feels more effortless releasing the clutch and getting her going, much much smoother. If I have TC turned off and am cruising in 1st or 2nd I can get a good chirp with just a light hit of the trottle.

Definately worth it in my humble opinion.

Not a Vmax alone, but surely helped. I started a thread that has the dyno sheet posted.

I dynoed 403hp and 401 TQ (SAE) with a stock tune, VMax TB, SOLO high flow cats and Halltech cai.

After putting on the TB I could immediately tell a difference. It was enough of a difference that I didn't trust what I felt. Improved throttle response. Took less throttle for the same movement...if that makes sense.

Mine was installed before the dyno, but I noticed 3 benefits from it before my tune...

1. Eliminated surging (RPM fluctuation) at idle
2. Improved throttle response.
3. Painted to match makes it look better.

The surging alone was well worth the cost of the VMax.

Here's my .02

I put a VMax ported throttle body and intake on my car, and have the pre and post dyno chart that I'll post below.

I dynoed 470 rwhp @ 6299 and 423 rwtq @ 5378...Then I ported the stock intake and throttle body...granted we didn't run the car out to 6299 the second time ( stopped @ 5923 ), but the dyno graph on the HP side showed 2 less HP....I picked up a whopping 9 rwtq @ 5232. Dyno sheets don't lie...hardly worth the $400 + to do the mods.

Would like to see the AFR's for the runs.....I bet you could use a good tune. With both the TB & Intake you will need the tune optimized.

I am a female, and couldn't tell a difference between the VMAX or the stock unit, the car to me drove nice with either, if it made or even lost power, it wasn't enough to notice. I did dyno with it but my data would be incomplete because I didn't dyno before install....

It was tuned....I don't have the A/F sheet here at work though.

interesting, seems like no matter what you get better air flow and some throttle increase...i cant see it being a bad decision for $150 bucks. looking to do one in the near future after a few other installs

Vmax Ported TB

I definitely felt some improved throttle response (tip in - light throttle). No noticeable difference in overall performance.
But trying to feel 5hp or so when your making 400+hp is pretty much impossible.

Your not going to see a huge difference. Maybe just in throttle response mostly. I'm on the fence about it. There is a lip on the bottom of the tb in front of the blade that might obstruct a minute amount of airflow. The real deal would be to bore it bigger and put a bigger throttle blade because of the bigger hole. You'll only get so much (which isn't much!) by reshaping the inlet.

So how is it that some people are experiencing 9 hp and 10 torque and some people are losing it? Bad TBs? Bad installation? Just normal dyno variance? I dunno whether to get this or not!

Ran my car on the same dyno...throw variance out the window.

Car was tuned, and the install is fine.

I will not argue that the throttle body does in fact improve throttle response....it does.

The HP claims I'd be suspect of....the LS3 intake flows pretty damn good as GM made it. The heads flow outstanding numbers as cast...the reason I suspect is the set up with a 376 CID engine is maximized therefore there is no gain to be had from the porting.

These parts went on a cammed LS3 so the gains should have been larger than those seen on a stock app. Wasn't the case...I will post up the A/F sheets tomorrow.
