Installing Anderson Composites Spoiler with Wicker Bill

I wanted to share my installation in case anyone else chooses to do this in the future. I bought this a few years ago and am just now getting around to installing it. I bought it because I needed the wicker bill but wasn't a huge fan of drilling into the OEM spoiler. An added bonus the weight savings is 2.5 lbs over the OEM spoiler with the OEM wicker bill.

The spoiler took several months to be delivered. It arrived and looked great. I couldn't decide about leaving it carbon or painting it in OEM colors but decided to try the carbon first. I had it ceramic coated and I think it looks great, especially with AGM, so I'm keeping it.

While the carbon fiber is great the hardware and overall kit leaves something to be desired. I bought all new hardware and also rubber washers and foam to install like the OEM spoiler. Details below. In my opinion it wasn't a completely ready to install kit.

The other complaint I have is the outer studs are not far enough out. I had to grind the outer OEM decklid holes a bit inward to get these to fit. I was sure to paint the areas I had to grind to avoid future issues with corrosion.

The first thing I did was purchase some rubber washers and adhesive backed foam to replicate the OEM installation for cushioning against the trunk lid and water proofing. Here are the parts I purchased from McMaster Carr:

The foam was applied around the underside perimeter just like OEM and the washers went around the holes.

The next hardware needed was the 6 nuts to attach the spoiler. The ones provided would almost be impossible to use because they are just standard stainless steel nuts and it would be difficult to install in the recessed areas. The nuts I chose were these:

The screws provided to attach the wicker bill were just Philips head screws. I replaced them with these and had them coated in black oxide so they don't stand out against the carbon. I also chose torx plus because it is a little less common than a Philips head for security reasons. When installing I added some loctite 242 to ensure they stay put.

Lastly for the attachment of the wicker bill I felt a cushioning washer was needed. I didn't like the thought of putting the carbon against the stainless inserts, plus I wanted to attempt to prevent any potential galvanic corrosion.

When I installed the wicker bill Anderson provides the aluminum pieces for the counter sunk screws, I again used the following washers to cushion the washers from the carbon (same as against the decklid).

All in all I think it turned out well! Tested at high speed and all is good.

Looks great on your car, and convinced me NOT to get the AC spoiler at any point lol. I was debating it too, although not the wicker bill version as I'm not a fan of the look, and don't track my car.
