This oil pump thing isn't just 6th Gens either so I added 2016 to the list.

Here is the most famous Oil pump failure out there He had a catch can on his car and got his warranty voided over it.

On the plus side the pump should be ok, and as the engine stopped turning immediately I do not expect the rotating assembly was damaged. I will start pulling the supercharger and heads tomorrow, but need to figure out why the key sheared in the first place.
Bad metal or you over spun the size of the key way, did this on an old Road King I had, put on heads, cam and 12.5/1 pistons that bike was a sleeper, but one day on a long trip lost oil pressure, when I got on it hard, turn of the bike and restart it and oil if fine, long story was I did what you did with the key way.

Hi all,

This is the only concern I have about these cars. I plan on keeping it till I'm gone, so I'm hoping there will be no issues. I worry about the lower pressure under normal driving, but it seems to be the standard for these motors. I don't race and will probably never see the track, but the issue still is on my mind when I drive.

I did buy a great extended warranty, good for 10 years or 125k miles, with a $100 deductable, co sponsered by my dealer, a very reputable one. It seems a huge shame that GM doesn't just fix the known bad part and do pre-emptive replacements, which would in the end be cheaper for them than replacing a lot of engines that don't survive the oil pump breaking.

Why not a super hardened part of the pump that seems to be the part breaking??? It just doesn't make sense for GM to keep half-assed fixing these with the current "apparently same" part...

The Corvette guys have just filed a Class Action lawsuit against GM for the overheating issues in the Z06's. Maybe that's what needs to be done here to get GM's attention.

Hi Guys,
Does the oil pump issue only happens with the S.C. engine or also on the V8 NA Camaro?

They both use the same pump, so why are ZL1's affected and not SS's? At least all I hear are of ZL1 failures.

This may be Huge!

I just purchased a 2018 zl1 last week. It was pre owned. At
around 2,600 miles I got a message. Reduced engine power. It has taken them a few days going back and forth with GM to figure it out. Oil pump ordered today. And it's on back order. It's on they have no idea when they will get it back order. I was also told by the dealer to replace the oil pump on a zl1 was billed as 14hrs.

I've heard it more the other way around.

Still Waiting

I have a 2018 M6 ZL1 (not sure of manufacture date but I bought it in January of 2018 and know it was a special order by someone else who disappeared, so chance it falls into that timeframe).

Had the lost oil pressure issue occur on Friday, May 31, 2019 as others described. Flatbed into Dealership that night, still waiting for more news at this point (Thursday, June 6th at lunchtime). All I have heard from them at this point was when they called me Monday afternoon to tell me it was NOT the sending unit (which they thought was original issue). All I know is that it was getting 0 pressure at filter housing when they checked there.

Hate being in the dark and how long this feels like it's been dragging on already. I will update with my full diagnosis and production date when I hear back from the dealership finally . . .

Well, it's official. Dealer just got the lower end apart and found out late last night (after having my car for a week) that the oil pump literally exploded. Said there was shrapnel all through the oil pan. Waiting to hear back from GM, but likely means I won't see my car again anytime soon . . .

Just wondering if you're referring to the previous gen's as a whole on the oil pump failures? To my knowledge there hasn't been a lot of folks reporting oil pump failures on the 6th gen LT1's as frequently as whats' going on with the LT4's. At least on this forum that I've noticed.

That's truly horrible. On the positive side, hopefully they'll replace the long block or the entire engine instead of attempting a rebuild.

Sucks that the car is out of commission. Maybe you can drop an LT5 in there.

Man, I’d be beside myself... good luck.

Don’t understand these oil pump failures...you’d think they’d be designed and built to be bullet proof.
