The rubber has 3 "nipples" that pop into the center column. Just be careful not to rip them off. Even if you do manage to bust a nipple, it will still go back on and be unnoticeable.

I would like to see more info on the removal of this. I have a history of some clips no longer functioning after I pull panels off. Sucks. I just don't want to screw this up, but intend on doing something similar to this.

Could someone please help decribe to me how to remove the "rings"? I have tried pulling on various spots of mine, and it seems to be locked in really well. I just don't want to break anything, which isn't unusual for me on delicate things.

I got a chance to paint mine with some duplicolor. I did the outside CMG and the inside of the rings are flat black.

Go to post #50 for picture

Can you just pop the rings off as the picture shows with your hands, or is a trim tool (or something similar) required? Mine doesn't want to budge.

Thanks.

Be gentle with removing it guys. The female parts of the clip that are molded into the dash are kinda thin in spots. I was as careful as I could have been walking it off with my finger tips. The upper left on broke on me (made we wanna cry). Anyway, I believe I did a good repair job (may be better than original as I beefed it up), but it sucked anyway.

All is good now, just take care.

Yeah just grab it at the top and pull harder. Once the first clip pops out it they'll all come out easier.
