Car won't start when hot

Car won't start when hot. I let it cool down for about 20-30 minutes and it'll start no problem. .

It could be a couple things. Bad battery or alternator would be the first thing I would think. l've also heard of a bad coolant temperature sending unit causing the motor to not switch between open and closed loop. I would get your battery tested first. Hope that helps!

Not an uncommon problem on SSs. If not batttery or alt prioblem could be bad starter or classic starter heat soak, more so if you have headers. Lots of posts about this problem and what to do about it, starting with testing battery and alt.

It's funny this was posted as I was having this same issue since Thursday. My car would crank but it wouldn't start if it was hot. I went to sears and got a new die hard battery and that solved the issue so far. If I were you, I would get a new battery just to be safe, and when you're picking it up have them check the alternator for you

Yes because of heat soak. A hot engine is harder to get started. Heat makes everything expand. Get the battery tested.

I had this problem. Was grounding the engine. Try to see if the negative connections to the block are fine.

I had the same issue some weeks ago,

new battery didn´t solve the problem with hot cranks,
so I bought a new starter (ACDelco 12617229) and all is fine now

Thanks for all the replies. The ground wire that goes to the passenger head has two nuts, but I lost one and I put it under with the clamps holding the wires. Car stock motor with agp twin kit. Will be wrapping the starter. reason I think it's that ground is the car had a blower with long tube headers and never has this issue until after I switched over.
