rear end fail

did the search but. I have the back lash whine when I let off the gas and coast down from 45-50 mph. went to dealer and got the stock answer (it's the tires).I will change lube but I don't think that will help. if I run it like it how prone to failure is this? I would like to do some lite drag racing and am worried about failure what are the odds

Mine started whining at 3400 miles, I now have 13800. The lash will get bigger over time, but that will not cause a failure unless you are talking 70 or 80,000 miles, and I still think that it will be fine. I could go after a warranty replacement but few have had success with a dealer actually being capable of getting it right. If mine gets worse I will change the ring and pinion myself.

I have the same noise at the same speed and the dealer said the same thing to me... tires. Lol it ain't the tires!! At least they have a record of me ( you also) bringing it in for a rear end noise. I think this will help if there is ever a problem that develops and needs warranty work.
I think changing the fluid will definitely help although I haven't changed mine yet.
How many miles on yours?

I think the service bulletin was for a noise when turning where they flush the rear 3 time and do figure 8 turns in both directions.

Like Revster, I was lucky too and dealer replaced after 1,500 break-in as that is for both engine and rear diff. Replaced entire diff, faintest of noise out of new one, nothing even close to the old one.

Chances are your backlash is off. Take it to the dealer and have them check it. Common issue in these. Had my ring and pinion replaced. Sometimes they replace the whole thing.
