If the threat is that they'll close CAMI, they'll just add another shift or something to the Mexico plant and be done with it. No re-tooling required.

But to address your point more generally, as I understand it they are pretty much only over-capacity in cars while being nearly at their limit for crossover production. Closing a plant that is already building crossovers to shift production to another crossover building facility doesn't make much sense. Compared to, say closing a car plant that makes full size sedans (all, or most, of which are also built in another plant) and is well under 25% of its annual capacity and has slowly been losing models with no replacement for a few years. That plant is Oshawa.

On that note...

Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly idled for six weeks. Production line to be slowed upon restart.

It would be awesome if they showed whatever's new for 2019 at Detroit in January.

C7 Corvette will stay in production past 2020.

LT5 will be an upgraded LT4.

I'm assuming until they get the lower end variant mid engine cars ready to go, and then its goodbye C7. Sounds like we'll have a year or two of C8 and C7 selling side by side then, as previously thought.

I'd put my money on the mid engine car being an expansion of the lineup rather than a replacement. You don't double your plant size just to sell a few thousand mid engine cars per year.

I asked the performance manager at my dealer about when they will have info on the new ZR1. He said it was going to be announced at the Detroit show. They are one of the top 10 Vette dealers but he also said Cheve's been pretty tight lipped on this..

Do you know what the upgrades are? It's likely to be the 2.65 TVS, but I was wondering if there was anything else.

I really hope the mid engine doesn't go a v6 route

Why would it? GM doesn't have a V6 that they need to perpetually hype up to cover for the fact that its not quite as good as an otherwise similar V8.

These are halo cars. They are meant to sell the rest of the lineup, not themselves. In order to do that, they need to have some connection back to the brand they're supporting besides simply being sold through the same dealership.

Well, I’m sure we’ll find out about the LT5 in a few months.
